Lewis Hamilton will compete in his second home race as a Ferrari driver this weekend at Monza. This race is the biggest of the year for the Tifosi.

Monza is world-famous in F1 for the iconic Ferrari fans, who produce a sea of red in the grandstands for the Italian Grand Prix. Their incredible support is unmatched on home soil, and Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton need it more than ever.

Ferrari come into their home event off the back of a double DNF at Zandvoort. Hamilton crashed on lap 23 after losing the rear at turn three in the unpredictable conditions.

Leclerc had a foul-mouthed response over the radio as he had tried the undercut, but failed to gain an advantage as his teammate brought out the safety car. The Monegasque driver struggled to pass Isack Hadjar before he also crashed out at turn three.

Kimi Antonelli took out Leclerc on lap 53 after the latter had come into the pits for soft tyres. Ferrari ignored Leclerc’s wishes to stay on hards, as he felt the compound was working well, ultimately leading to his accident.

The mood at Ferrari at Zandvoort would certainly have been low as they registered no points on the board for the second time in 2025 after their disqualification in China.

Robert Doornbos thinks Hamilton is ‘isolated’ at Ferrari after seeing his behaviour in the paddock. He is not having the season at Maranello that he would have anticipated as the wait for his maiden podium continues.

But Monza instantly gives the whole team a boost as they will be spurred on by the passionate support of the Tifosi. Ferrari will be keen to put on a show and grab a strong result in front of their home crowd.

Hamilton saw firsthand the true devotion from the Ferrari fans when he and Leclerc made an appearance at the Royal Palace in Milan. Thousands gathered to cheer on their heroes, and the seven-time world champion had just one message.

He said via Sky Sport Italia, standing on the balcony of the Royal Palace: “It’s incredible, we need your support.” Teammate Leclerc then added: “I’ve had the privilege of being a Ferrari driver since 2019, you’re the best.”

Lewis Hamilton says it’s the most ‘special thing ever’ to be a Ferrari driver ahead of Monza

While signing autographs for fans in Milan, Hamilton proclaimed that racing in red is truly a special feeling.

“It’s wonderful to be here, in such a wonderful place. Being a Ferrari driver is the most special thing ever,” he said. Ferrari fans will absolutely love this from the Brit, but they will want to see a strong weekend.

‘Everyone’ at Ferrari is convinced they can challenge McLaren at Monza this weekend. Leclerc fended off Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris to win last year’s race with a well-executed strategy; they will want to do the same in 2025.

But for his teammate, it will be made that little bit more difficult as Hamilton will serve a five-place grid penalty for a yellow flag infringement at Zandvoort. If Ferrari do have the car to compete for victory, they cannot afford to waste that chance.
