Lewis Hamilton F1 future prediction made if Mercedes struggle again in 2024

Lewis Hamilton has enjoyed incredible success with Mercedes over the years, but their recent struggles will be a point of concern for the seven-time champion.

Mercedes may have finished second in the Constructors’ Championship in 2023, but Lewis Hamilton and George Russell both failed to win a single race.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, journalist Peter Windsor has suggested that Hamilton could part ways with Mercedes at the end of the year if they once again fail to build a car that can challenge Max Verstappen and Red Bull.

Lewis Hamilton showed last season that even in a decent but not exceptional car, he could produce some great results.

With just three races left in the season, Hamilton was still in contention to finish above Sergio Perez in the Drivers’ Championship.

Considering he hadn’t won a race all season it was nearly a remarkable feat and a testament to his consistency.

However, that’s not the reason at 39 that Hamilton is still competing in Formula 1.

He wants to break Michael Schumacher’s record for seven world titles and after coming agonisingly close in 2021, Mercedes have fallen well behind Red Bull.

Windsor has now suggested that Hamilton will probably leave Mercedes at the end of this year if their struggles continue.

The legendary driver would have no shortage of options if he made it clear that he wanted to move on.

The only team that probably wouldn’t have him is Red Bull, which might be the only car that’s capable of winning the title.

Hamilton could leave Mercedes if struggles continue – Windsor

Asked about Hamilton’s future, Windsor said: “Lewis would probably leave if it was another terrible year I would guess, he would probably say enough is enough.

“I can’t imagine he would say I’ll wait until 2026, I’ll wait until we get a half-electric Formula 1 car, I can’t imagine that’s attractive to Lewis Hamilton.

“So, yeah that could be a repercussion, you’re going to see somebody in there, a Lando Norris, or somebody like that at Mercedes which will be interesting.”

Jenson Button believes Hamilton is the man who could challenge Verstappen this season in the right car.

McLaren chief Zak Brown has echoed his thoughts, but if Mercedes don’t find a way to fix their struggles from 2022 and 2023 then Hamilton might look elsewhere to continue with Formula 1 career.

It would bring an end to one of the most impressive partnerships in F1 history, but this is a ruthless sport and if Hamilton wasn’t performing, they wouldn’t hesitate to find a replacement.

It’s also interesting that Windsor suggests Lando Norris as a potential incoming driver at Mercedes if Hamilton leaves.

He may be equally frustrated if McLaren failed to produce a race-winning car in a similar way to Hamilton wanting to be able to challenge for the title.

It’s a switch the young Brit is unlikely to turn down but feels like a pipe dream right now.
