Lewis Hamilton endured a miserable first year as a Ferrari F1 driver in 2025, so hopes to overturn during the 2026 season the bleak assessments that his struggles created.

The 41-year-old agreed to join Ferrari in February 2024 after recording back-to-back winless seasons with Mercedes. But the move to Maranello at the start of 2025 would not be worth the wait, as another winless campaign followed in the worst year of his 19-year career in F1.

While Hamilton won the F1 Sprint in China from pole position during round two of the 2025 season to start his life as a Ferrari driver promisingly, he then failed to secure a single Grand Prix podium. The Briton had never previously failed to earn at least one podium in a season.

Hamilton also only scored 156 points over the 24 Grands Prix and six Sprints to finish 2025 just sixth in the F1 drivers’ standings, having also registered his worst tally under the scoring system used since 2010. Teammate Charles Leclerc scored 242 points and seven podiums.

It is now said that doubts have exploded about Hamilton within Ferrari, and Fred Vasseur is also already thought to be considering who could replace the seven-time champion. Ferrari are watching McLaren’s Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, plus Oliver Bearman’s form at Haas.

Hamilton hopes the 2026 F1 regulations will mark a fresh start and a chance to bounce back at Ferrari with a car that will possibly be better suited for his driving style. But Gazzetta dello Sport now reports that Hamilton’s days in Formula 1 may be numbered if he struggles again.

The Briton wants to overturn the bleak assessments about his 2025 campaign that will only be remembered for his ‘catastrophic’ numbers. But he may target his goals and dreams ‘far removed’ from not only Ferrari but Formula 1 if 2026 brings another year of endless misery.

Hamilton cut an increasingly dejected figure as the 2025 season progressed amid his almost endless woes. After qualifying P12 when Leclerc secured pole position for the Hungarian GP, Hamilton suggested Ferrari should “change driver”. He failed to reach Q3 nine times in 2025.

Also, Hamilton claimed he was living a “nightmare” at Ferrari after the Sao Paulo GP, where he retired due to the damage he sustained after hitting Alpine’s Franco Colapinto. The Briton would also then go on to qualify last on pure pace for the first time ever at the Las Vegas GP.

Single-lap speed continued to escape Hamilton at the end of 2025, as he failed to get out of Q1 at each of the final three rounds in Las Vegas, Qatar and Abu Dhabi. The record 105-time race winner also finished just one of the final 12 Grands Prix higher than P6 with P4 in Texas.
