Lewis Hamilton looked to be quite confident after the Australian Grand Prix, even sharing his optimism for future races against his teammate, Charles Leclerc.
Lewis Hamilton didn’t get off to the start he would have hoped for at the Australian Grand Prix. The seven-time world champion just missed out on a podium, finishing in fourth place.
Hamilton had to watch his teammate, Charles Leclerc, stand on the podium as Ferrari’s only representative behind a Mercedes one-two.

However, he did make a push for third, battling it out with Leclerc till the very end. Hamilton’s post-race message to Carlo Santi was positive, as he shared his excitement over the car’s performance.
Despite this, Hamilton believes he would have caught up to and overtaken Leclerc if he had a little more time on the track.

Lewis Hamilton claims he ‘would’ve had’ Charles Leclerc in a few more laps
After the race, Lewis Hamilton spoke to reporters and reflected on a successful outing with Ferrari in Australia. Hamilton shared how proud he was of the team, despite their struggles against Mercedes.
While he admitted that Mercedes had work to do, Hamilton also claimed he had great pace, and would have overtaken Charles Leclerc with a few more laps.
“I’m really proud of the team. Obviously, we’re not as fast as Mercedes. We’ve got work to do, but we’re right in the fight. It was a really, really fun race. And it felt good for me.”
“A couple more laps and I would’ve had Charles so… I had great pace. Lots and lots of positives to take from today.”
Overall, Hamilton seemed quite happy with his performance and how he and Ferrari can bounce back going into the remainder of the season.

Even though Lewis Hamilton missed out on what would have been his first podium finish with Ferrari, there are a lot of positives to take away from today’s race
For the first time in a long time, Ferrari looked up for it, with Hamilton in particular finding himself back in the top mix.
It’s now up to Ferrari to identify what went wrong, particularly with their failed pit strategy, and make sure that they put Hamilton in a position to succeed.
Ferrari’s ‘painful’ battery issues didn’t hamper Hamilton on the day. Now they have to ensure that they can accentuate the positives and mitigate the negatives before the Chinese Grand Prix.
