It’s safe to say that the sooner the 2024 Formula 1 season finishes, the better for Aston Martin.

Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll were almost anonymous throughout the United States Grand Prix, failing to score a point in either race.

Alonso had been on a good run of form before the autumn break, scoring points in four of the last five races before heading to Austin.

His sixth-place finish in Baku was particularly impressive considering that Aston Martin have a car that’s now towards the back of the midfield.

Stroll’s failed to score points in any of the last six races and has fallen behind Nico Hulkenberg in the Drivers’ Championship as a result with Yuki Tsunoda hot on his heels.

Aston Martin are very much preparing for the future and the signing of Adrian Newey in particular has made a lot of headlines.

Lawrence Stroll has also built a state-of-the-art factory for Aston Martin but it’s yet to bear the fruits he would like.

A report from Marca has shared what Stroll was doing in Austin ahead of the race.

Stroll will expect to see improved results from his team next season, if not sooner, given the investment he’s made recently.

He was spotted speaking to Dan Fallows who has previously been said to be under pressure at Aston Martin with results getting worse and worse since the start of the 2023 season when Alonso was regularly finishing on the podium.

Fallows is the current technical director of Aston Martin, having arrived from Red Bull in 2022.

He was one of the first high-profile signings by Stroll to help improve the team’s performance.

That appeared to be working at the beginning of 2023 when Alonso arrived from Alpine when he secured six podium finishes in the next eight races.

However, their first major update package didn’t work correctly and as their rivals made progress, they went backwards.

Alonso saved Aston Martin’s blushes with two more top-three finishes in the Netherlands and Brazil last year, but this season, finishing on the podium has been a pipe dream.

The report from Marca highlights that the AMR24 isn’t working and is ‘getting worse every race’.

Lawrence Stroll was with Fallows who Marca say was pointing out the new features on the car to him during the race weekend.

While Stroll’s expertise doesn’t lie in aerodynamic or mechanical Formula 1 parts, he’s extremely results-orientated and will know looking at the championship standings that his team are underperforming.

Fernando Alonso starts feud with Formula 1’s newest driver

Alonso would love to be involved in battles with Red Bull and McLaren right now, but that’s simply not the case given where Aston Martin are in the pecking order.

Instead, he was fighting with RB and in particular Liam Lawson who was returning to the grid for the first time since 2023 after replacing Daniel Ricciardo.

Alonso was fuming with Lawson in parc ferme after a tense battle in the Sprint Race.

However, Lawson was left surprised by Alonso’s conduct during Sunday’s race and admitted he had huge respect for the Spaniard.

The 43-year-old will enter his 400th Grand Prix at the Mexico City Grand Prix which is a record that may never be beaten.
