Despite departing the team, Laurent Mekies revealed that Helmut Marko is in regular contact with Red Bull and their drivers this season.

Since his departure from Formula 1, Helmut Marko has stayed away from the sport, only choosing to comment on certain matters when reached out to by the press.

Marko leaving Red Bull has given new team principal Laurent Mekies additional responsibilities, especially when it comes to driver development and management.

Mekies’ management of Isack Hadjar compared to Marko’s has seemingly yielded positive results, as the young driver has stepped up in a massive way.

Even Liam Lawson has looked rejuvenated without Marko on the team. But it appears the former Red Bull advisor is still in contact with the team.

Laurent Mekies reveals Helmut Marko is still in contact with Red Bull behind the scenes

Speaking on the Beyond the Grid podcast, Helmut Marko shed light on the impact Helmut Marko still has on Red Bull after leaving the team.

Interestingly, Mekies revealed that Marko and several members of the Red Bull team, including the drivers have remained in touch on a regular basis.

“I’m pretty sure they are still talking. Maybe not at 7:00 AM, but maybe a bit later in the day. Helmut has remained very open and available to us.

“I am sure we’re all having chats with him and getting his guidance from him even though you don’t see him turning up at the race track…

“You can’t turn the page of Helmut that he has been building this young driver program for two decades with incredible success.

“You don’t turn that page quickly. So we are living on his legacy right now. And as I said he’s behind the corners if we need him.”

Red Bull hoping to stabilise team as new era begins

With the departures of Helmut Marko, Christian Horner, Jonathan Wheatley, and Adrian Newey over the last two years, Red Bull have lost four core members of one of their most successful periods ever.

This has allowed several members within the organisation to get elevated roles, as Red Bull look to rebuild the team back to the heights they hit previously.

The new regulations have certainly not made things easier for them, as Red Bull find themselves behind their rivals this year.

The hope is that this hiatus in the season will give Red Bull the time to sort out some of the issues with their cars and turn their form around when they return to the Miami Grand Prix.
