Lando Norris is well and truly back in charge of the 2025 F1 championship battle, and Christian Danner has identified one Lewis Hamilton-esque trait that he has now unlocked that could see him hold the lead until the very end.

The championship leader has turned a 34-point disadvantage after his unfortunate retirement from the Dutch Grand Prix into a 24-point advantage as the grid prepares for the final three rounds of the season.

Norris has managed to turn things around at a point in the title fight where some may have thought the Australian was too far ahead to catch, and his manager has cited his client’s improved life decisions as a key factor behind the impressive comeback.

On the other hand, Piastri has struggled immensely with the pressure that comes with challenging for a title in the pinnacle of single-seater motorsport. Norris’ experience of that pressure in 2024 can also be referenced in the British driver’s ability to capitalise in the most important moments.

Christian Danner thinks Lando Norris has ‘found a way’ to avoid the same fate as Oscar Piastri in the 2025 F1 title fight

During his highly successful tenure at Mercedes, the confidence that Hamilton had in himself was an integral part of the six world titles he won as a member of the Brackley-based team.

However, the reason for his ongoing dominance comes down to the fact that he came back even better with every single championship feat that he added to his tally.

Speaking on a recent episode of the Motorsport-Magazin podcast, former F1 driver Christian Danner highlighted how Norris has seemingly unlocked the same way of working, following his recent victories in the sport.

He said, “Well, it can go both ways. On one side, there can be self-confidence, like with Lewis. When he won, he was even better the next time.

“That’s one variant. The other is, for God’s sake, now I can lose everything again. That’s terrible, the stress.

“I believe Lando Norris has found a way with his team, not just the racing team, but also his private coaching team, to achieve a stability that helps him over the last three races of the season and gives him the necessary self-confidence or self-understanding.

“You always have trust, but self-understanding, how am I, how do I feel, how is this going, to get this right, I trust him because he has consistently worked on it due to his rather quite bad experiences at the beginning of the year.

“Such problems do not solve themselves; you have to tackle them actively.”

Lando Norris’ mental fortitude was questioned earlier in the 2025 F1 season

Following his retirement at Zandvoort, many questioned whether Norris had it in him to claw his way back into the title fight as he saw the gap at the top of the F1 standings widen to 34 points.

In fact, questions over his mental fortitude were raised earlier in the season, when both McLaren drivers emerged as the two main title protagonists for the ensuing campaign.

The former team principal of the Faenza-based racing outfit now known as Racing Bulls, Franz Tost, outlined how he felt Piastri was mentally the stronger driver out of the McLaren duo.

However, fast forward a few months, and the shoe is now on the other foot. Johnny Herbert saw Norris looking as mentally strong as ever in the paddock of the Mexico City Grand Prix, and it has been evident in the results of the British driver, who has won both Grands Prix since.

The ball is certainly in the court of the elder McLaren driver at the moment, and it remains to be seen whether the current F1 campaign serves up any more shocks.
