Lando Norris seemed to highlight McLaren’s frustration with Mercedes as he stormed out of the media pen after the Sprint at the British Grand Prix.
The defending champion finished P3 behind Kimi Antonelli and Lewis Hamilton, having got a huge launch off the line from P6 on the grid. However, his McLaren lacked the pace to keep up with their engine supplier.
The Woking outfit are using the older specification of the Mercedes engine at the British Grand Prix, which has thus created the latest tension between the two teams in 2026.

Lando Norris walked out of the British Grand Prix media pen after being asked about Mercedes’ engine
Tensions flared between McLaren and Mercedes, as the former accused the latter of withholding information about the power unit. This has re-emerged at the British GP, as Mercedes’ banned engine trick has been rediscovered at Silverstone.
The Brackley outfit have found a way to extract more power from the car by bizarrely lifting off the throttle at the start/finish line. Along with having the newer spec, McLaren are ‘grumbling’ to Mercedes behind the scenes.

Norris capped off just how the Woking outfit were feeling as he appeared to storm out of the media pen after the Sprint. Journalist Stuart Codling asked him about Mercedes’ engine trick, and he had a pretty abrupt answer.
Codling said via the Autosport YouTube channel: “McLaren fell further back. Lando Norris, P3 in the Sprint race, and he got that by dint of, as it turns out, having too light a car because they hadn’t put enough fuel in.
“And a really, really good start and opening lap and then he broke clear of that bun fight for P4 that was going on between George Russell, Charles Leclerc, Max Verstappen, and Oscar Piastri.

Kimi Antonelli claimed his fifth pole position of the season at Silverstone!
“Lando says he’s got no idea where the car is losing. He says it’s just slower on the straights than the Mercedes.
“I said to him, ‘Is there anything you can learn from the way the Mercedes are running their power unit? The little trick with the power?’ and he just goes, ‘No, we’re just slower everywhere.’ And then he walked off. So, that was quite an abrupt end to his time in the media pen.”
