Lance Stroll has been spotted doing something ‘unacceptable’ in Aston Martin telemetry

Lance Stroll has been at the centre of attention at Aston Martin after missing the Spanish Grand Prix due to injury.

Aston Martin claimed that Stroll needed further treatment on his wrists, after his injury from a 2023 bike accident was aggravated.

After being upset that he could not progress beyond Q3 in Spain, Stroll reportedly broke a helmet in a fit of rage in the garage, although Aston Martin would later deny that anything was thrown or broken.

Questions were raised over whether he would make it for his home race in Canada, but the team would later confirm that his treatment was successful and he would be in the car.

It has been a difficult season for Stroll so far, with questions over his future at Aston Martin. Looking at data from his qualifying laps in Imola, Peter Windsor spotted that he was doing something ‘unacceptable’ when comparing his laps to Fernando Alonso on his YouTube channel.

Windsor compared Alonso and Stroll’s laps from Q3 in Imola, specifically looking at the high-speed right-hander of Aqua Minerale.

Looking at the data, Stroll could be seen carrying less speed on the exit of the corner compared to Alonso because of one crucial thing he did midway through the corner.

“He’s [Stroll] the only driver that I saw go down to fifth gear, which is unacceptable. He’s just putting so much load and revs into the car,” said Windsor.

“When they get to the crucial point of the corner, Stroll is going much too quickly in fifth gear, and as they come out of the corner, Fernando has quicker speed.”

Lance Stroll’s future is uncertain at Aston Martin

Stroll is now in his ninth season in F1, and so far he’s only achieved three podium finishes and a single pole at the 2020 Turkish Grand Prix.

He’s the son of billionaire Aston Martin team owner, Lawrence Stroll, who has supported his career throughout his progression through single seaters.

Last year, Alonso scored the bulk of Aston Martin, reaching a tally of 70 points compared to Stroll’s 24 points.

Stroll has scored more points than Alonso this year, but the Spaniard has been marred by a series of on-track incidents and bad luck this season.

Alonso has outqualified Stroll all 10 times so far and looks on course to continue as the season goes on. Aston Martin simulator driver Dani Juncadella thinks Stroll risks becoming the next Sergio Perez if he does not improve his form.
