Lance Stroll compared to ‘prime’ Ayrton Senna by F1 fans after watching ‘insane’ British Grand Prix onboard footage

The conditions at Silverstone were treacherous for the drivers during the British Grand Prix as rain consistently showered the track.

Drivers faced a difficult tyre choice at the start of the race having to choose between starting on the slick dry tyres or playing it safe on the Intermediates.

Most of the drivers in the top ten played it safe, knowing that rain would hit the track within the first opening laps of the race.

One of those was Lance Stroll, who effectively gained four positions as drivers who pitted on the formation lap forfeited their grid positions.

Stroll would later switch to the soft tyres briefly, before making an early stop on the Intermediate tyres and finding himself in third at the Safety Car restart.

Taking to social media after seeing footage of him battling through the field in the tricky conditions, F1 fans compared him to Ayrton Senna and that famous opening lap at Donington.

F1 fans were impressed with how well Stroll handled the conditions, with one fan commenting: “He was flying!”

Another said that he didn’t show any fear despite the limited visibility: “For real, he didn’t hesitate AT ALL!”

Other fans compared his driving to Senna, with one commenting: “He either drives like Lance himself or Senna, no in between”

One fan said: “Ah yes the yearly random wet race where Lance Stroll turns into prime Senna. A tradition I love.”

Another fan wrote: “Does Stroll just become Senna in the rain?” With another saying: “Stroll possessed by Senna in the rain as per usual.” One fan wrote: “This was kinda insane!”

Stroll would eventually drop back to seventh place after staying in third for a few laps, before being overtaken by Nico Hulkenberg in the Sauber.

Hulkenberg earned his first podium, while Stroll was relegated by Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen and Pierre Gasly.

After the race, his engineer Gary Gannon told him the positions and added “amazing finish” before Stroll said: “Yeah ‘crazy’ is an understatement, I mean it’s the worst piece of s— I have ever driven in my life to be honest. But it’s ok. 7th.”

It was a scathing response that shows just where Aston Martin currently is on track, having been outscored by Sauber in the last three races.
