Kimi Antonelli becomes first teenager to win multiple Grands Prix with Suzuka success

Following up his win in the Chinese Grand Prix with a second win in Suzuka, Kimi Antonelli now has two Grand Prix wins in his career before turning 20 years old.

As a result, he has now become the only teenager in Formula 1 history to have multiple race wins. Previously, the record was held by Max Verstappen, who had one race win as a teenager.

In the span of two races, Antonelli has tied and surpassed Verstappen’s record, etching his name into the history books with a phenomenal start to the season.

Antonelli is now also the youngest championship leader in Formula 1 history, showing he is ready for the moment that the new season has brought along.

Antonelli now sits firmly at the top of the standings with 72 points, showing that he is a serious contender to win the world championship.

Kimi Antonelli could create problems for George Russell this season

With a nine-point gap between Antonelli and George Russell in the standings, it is becoming clear that Mercedes have two drivers who can compete for the championship.

While Antonelli wants to avoid a conflict with Russell, the young driver is unlikely to give up his opportunity to compete for the world championship.

Earlier, Toto Wolff hinted at backing Russell over Antonelli if the drivers’ championship race came down to the two of them.

But with the way Antonelli has been performing, Mercedes may have no choice but to re-evaluate that stance and back the young driver instead.

It is still early in the season, but Antonelli is showing Russell that he will have to beat him if he wants to win the world championship.
