Kevin Magnussen has shared a message on social media after his huge crash at the Mexico City Grand Prix yesterday.

Magnussen posted on Instagram and shared more details about the incident that ended up bringing out the red flags yesterday.

It was an eventful race in Mexico City that saw the home town hero Sergio Perez retire after the first lap.

He was sent flying through the air by Charles Leclerc although the Monegasque driver had nowhere to go with Max Verstappen on his inside.

The race was running without a hitch with teams trying to devise their pit strategies.

Verstappen had driven away into the distance as has been the case throughout the 2023 season.

However, the race for the minor points was once again where most of the action was.

Haas looked in good shape to come away from the race with something as Nico Hulkenberg tried to cling onto a place in the top ten in his 200th Grand Prix.

Unfortunately, Magnussen’s massive crash brought out the red flags in Mexico which was a double blow for the team.

Not only was the Dane out of the race, but the red flag allowed rivals AlphaTauri to change their tyres without a pit stop, eventually leading to Daniel Ricciardo recording a vital seventh-place finish.

Posting on Instagram after the race, Magnussen said: “A rear left suspension failure sent me into the barrier.

“Got a knock on my hands, but I’m fine. We need to investigate what exactly happened.

“Thank you for all the kind messages and support. Now it’s time for some rest – and then we’re onto Brazil.”

At the start of September, Magnussen admitted he was desperate for Haas to make their cars less ‘fragile’.

While Magnussen hasn’t shared the reason why his suspension failed, the most important news is that’s he OK after walking away from that crash in Mexico City.

Haas now have to score at least four points in the last three race weekends to avoid finishing bottom of the Constructors’ Championship.

Considering they’ve only recorded a single top-ten finish since Nico Hulkenberg’s exceptional drive in the Sprint Race in Austria, that’s going to be a very difficult task.

The only driver to have featured in every race below Magnussen in the driver’s standings is rookie Logan Sargeant and although he’s been confirmed for 2024, the Dane has to improve his performances if he wants to stay in Formula 1.
