Juan Pablo Montoya has warned Isack Hadjar that he cannot think about his mistake at the Miami Grand Prix, as it will continue to play on his mind.
It has been a tough start to life at Red Bull for the Frenchman, having scored just four points in the opening four races. He is slowly suffering a similar fate to the many drivers who partnered with Max Verstappen before him.
Hadjar admits his Red Bull move has been ‘painful’, as the team’s 2026 development has been hampered by their bid to win the 2025 title. Laurent Mekies has also acknowledged that this is affecting the team this season, but at the Miami Grand Prix, it was Hadjar at fault as he found the barriers.
A five-second penalty for Max Verstappen, but he keeps P5!
The right decision?
It was a difficult weekend overall for the 21-year-old. Hadjar questioned why he was a second behind Verstappen in Sprint qualifying – the same question many of the Dutchman’s past teammates asked as they tried to beat him.
Reaching Q3 for Sunday’s race, Hadjar clipped the wall on the inside of turn 14 and slammed into the wall. He was seen thrashing his steering wheel and slapping his helmet as he exited the wrecked RB22.

Juan Pablo Montoya tells Isack Hadjar he cannot think about his Miami GP crash
Hadjar said post-race that he wanted to look back over the incident, but Montoya told the Frenchman he could not afford to do this. Speaking on F1TV’s post-race show, the Colombian says a crash like that will ‘haunt’ him if he dwells on it for too long.
“The hard thing there is, he was running in traffic,” said Montoya. “And when you run in traffic, you turn, the front slides a little bit, you miss the wall.
“And he had just passed one of the Racing Bulls and he turned the same way. The front turns a little better, you clip the wall.
“And the frustrating part is he wants to look back at it because he’s not sure what he did wrong. And it haunts you because when you do a mistake with an inside apex, you go, ‘I thought I turned the same way.
“Did I go too slow? Did I go too fast? Did I turn too much my hands?’ And he Hadjar over thinks like that. And as you said, you need to let it go. ‘Sorry guys, made a mistake.’ Move over. You can’t think about it.”

Isack Hadjar frustrated by ‘very silly mistake’ in Miami Grand Prix
Speaking to F1TV after the race, Hadjar could not hide his disappointment. He felt a strong result could have been on the table with Red Bull’s new upgrades and innovations in Miami.
“Yeah, this one really hurts because I had honestly such good pace. It felt very easy overtaking,” he said.
What would you rate the Miami Grand Prix out of 10?
“Honestly, I’d like to just look back at what happened, but it went by so quickly that I was already in the wall, so very disappointed to throw away points and also hurting the car.
“Honestly, I really wanted to leave the weekend knowing, OK, we made some good progress, and today I could give a very strong result to the team coming from the pit lane.
“And to know that I just threw that all away because of a very silly mistake is just so, so frustrating.”
