The 2025 F1 season currently features six rookies in their first full season of racing in the pinnacle of motorsport, with not all of them being able to live up to the expectations set out for them at the start of the season.

Gabriel Bortoleto has been among the most impressive of the lot, with Guenther Steiner naming him as the best on the grid at the summer break.

The Brazilian is neck and neck with the vastly more experienced Nico Hulkenberg in the teammate battles. The German driver’s podium in Silverstone is mainly the deciding factor in the discrepancy in points between the two Sauber drivers.

Andrea Kimi Antonelli is the only rookie to feature on the podium after 14 rounds of the season gone.

The Italian has been largely inconsistent when compared to his Mercedes teammate, but has set himself the goal of matching George Russell in race pace by the end of the season.

Jeroen Bleekemolen notes Oliver Bearman as a 2025 F1 rookie who has made some ‘stupid mistakes’

Speaking on a recent episode of Formule 1 Paddockpraat, GT racing driver Jeroen Bleekemolen noted Oliver Bearman’s inconsistency in his rookie season, highlighting his error during a practice session for the British Grand Prix, which saw him crash on his entry into the pit lane.

In a debate about the current rookie class of the 2025 F1 season, Bleekemolen responded to talks about the young Brit, saying, “Look, he’s also made some really stupid mistakes.

“Like that crash in the pit lane at Silverstone, for example. You think, ‘Ooh, what, are you coming from Formula 4 or something?’ But he’s also shown some really good things, and usually, as a rule, he’s still faster than Ocon, and I don’t rate him to be slow either.”

The incident in practice hindered Bearman’s starting position for the Grand Prix. Silverstone marks the only track this year for him to make Q3, but a ten-place grid penalty for the incident, which happened under red flag conditions, saw him starting his home race from 18th instead of eighth.

Oliver Bearman has had a difficult start to the 2025 season in a struggling Haas F1 car

Bearman impressed in his F1 debut last season with Ferrari, filling in for the appendicitis-stricken Carlos Sainz at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. He finished that race seventh and was closer to Charles Leclerc than Lewis Hamilton was able to manage in his first race for Ferrari at Jeddah earlier this year.

However, in midfield to backmarker machinery with Haas this season, Bearman has struggled to get into the points, sitting in 19th place in the drivers’ standings after 14 races gone.

His only points-scoring finishes so far came in three of the opening four Grands Prix of the season, but he has been unlucky when considering his last four Grand Prix finishes have seen him just shy of the points in 11th place.

Bearman outperformed his F1 championship standing in our driver rankings for the first half of the season, with his recent finishes just outside of the top 10 hopefully breeding some confidence in the 20-year-old to push for those points-paying positions.
