Meanwhile, George Russell was furious and took a Toto Wolff message to calm him down.

What happened in the Qatar GP?

Corner one, lap one and the two Mercedes who started the race in second and third, collided. Russell got off to a quick start, however so did Hamilton as the two were so close heading into the opening corner.

Russell had Verstappen on one side of him, and coming round the outside was his teammate. Hamilton then proceeded to turn into Russell leaving his teammate nowhere to go and the two collided.

Hamilton span off into the gravel as his tyre headed in a completely separate direction. Russell however managed to recover and continued the race, pushing his car through the field to achieve a respectable finish.

Max Verstappen inevitably won the race, with the two McLaren’s completing the podium line-up. Top driving by Russell who secured P.4 despite his early set-back, but no doubt there will be harsh words exchanged in the Mercedes garage later.
