Lewis Hamilton will be frustrated that he couldn’t secure his first Ferrari podium at the United States Grand Prix, but there were plenty of positives for the seven-time world champion.
Ferrari struggled at the start of the United States Grand Prix, with both of their drivers barely making it into the top 10 shootout for the Sprint Race.
The weekend ended with Charles Leclerc on the podium for the sixth time this season, and Lewis Hamilton coming home directly behind him.
Hamilton nearly lost P4 to Oscar Piastri due to a late mechanical failure that he later described as being like a broken front wing or a puncture.
| RANK | DRIVER | TEAM | POINTS |
| 1 | Max Verstappen | Red Bull | 25 |
| 2 | Lando Norris | McLaren | 18 |
| 3 | Charles Leclerc | Ferrari | 15 |
| 4 | Lewis Hamilton | Ferrari | 12 |
| 5 | Oscar Piastri | McLaren | 10 |
| 6 | George Russell | Mercedes | 8 |
| 7 | Yuki Tsunoda | Red Bull | 6 |
| 8 | Nico Hulkenberg | Sauber | 4 |
| 9 | Oliver Bearman | Haas | 2 |
| 10 | Fernando Alonso | Aston Martin | 1 |
However, Hamilton was frustrated on the team radio about his lack of pace compared to Leclerc, with the Monegasque driver on the better strategy.
The 40-year-old still managed to hold off Piastri and was far quicker than George Russell’s Mercedes as he added 12 important points to his tally, with Ferrari still aiming for second in the constructors’ championship.
Jenson Button was evaluating Hamilton’s performance alongside Danica Patrick, and wanted to highlight one ‘amazing’ moment that no one is talking about.

Jenson Button hails Lewis Hamilton’s ‘amazing’ start to the United States Grand Prix
Button was reflecting on the race for Sky Sports F1 (19/10 10:33 pm) and talking about Ferrari’s performance, he said: “The pace was much better to be up there with the McLarens. They weren’t around the pace of Lando and Max, but apart from those two, they had really good pace.
“They obviously tried two different strategies. I don’t know if we have it, but the start of Lewis was really interesting.
“We haven’t talked about it, I’m not sure we’ve really shown it. He started, obviously quite far up; he lost about four or five places off the start, and he went backwards at the start.
“He dived down the outside at turn one, and gave it his all, and he came out in P4.
“Amazing, it’s like, Lewis, he’s still got it.”
Patrick added: “There’s nothing that feels better than finishing after a weekend with a good race result.
“No matter what else has happened over the weekend, that always seems to send you home in a good mood.
“They should be [happy], Mexico is the next race, which Carlos won for Ferrari last year, third place was Charles, and Lewis was fourth.
“Some hope and optimism for the next one, too.”

Lewis Hamilton explains the reason why he couldn’t challenge for a podium at the United States Grand Prix
Hamilton has five opportunities left to secure his first podium finish of the season and was generally positive about his performance on Sunday.
In his official post-race media session, he said: “It’s been a productive Sunday overall. Today’s race was a strong result for the team, and we gained some good points.
“My first stint was encouraging, and I was in the fight for third, but after my pit stop, the gap to the top three became too difficult to close.
“As a whole, the weekend has been a positive one. It showed the progress we’re making as a team and confirmed there’s still more potential to unlock in the SF-25.”
Hamilton, suggesting his pace wasn’t fast enough to catch Leclerc despite being on softer tyres during his second stint, will be his only frustration.
During the Sprint Race, Hamilton managed to overtake Leclerc, which shows how close the pair can be in terms of race pace.
The challenge for the seven-time world champion is consistently challenging Leclerc across the campaign next year.
