Formula 1 legend Jenson Button has shared his predictions for the 2024 season as this year’s action nears its conclusion.

Button was speaking to Sky Sports News ahead of an exciting new race in Las Vegas.

Any predictions that didn’t have Max Verstappen and Red Bull winning the championship this year were quickly laughed out of the window.

Christian Horner’s team have all every race except for Singapore in 2023 and you wouldn’t bet against them completing the nearly-clean sweep in Las Vegas and Abu Dhabi.

The race in Nevada this weekend is a bit of an unknown and street circuits haven’t been Red Bull’s strong point this season.

However, even if the likes of Lando Norris or Lewis Hamilton go into Saturday evening’s race with slightly more confidence than normal, it would be a surprise if the Dutch national anthem wasn’t playing at the end of the race.

Jenson Button has now shared his predictions for the 2024 Formula 1 season and believes there’s every chance we might see a few surprises.

It’s what the sport needs as attracting new fans when the same driver wins every weekend isn’t easy.

Even if Red Bull brought in a more competitive teammate for Verstappen would make things slightly more entertaining.

Asked how he sees next season going, Button said: “Well, you don’t have the rule changes that we were lucky enough to have. I also just think the sport is even more competitive now.

“You know, there are so many big teams fighting at the front and one tiny slip-up and you’re the fourth-best team.

“So to catch Red Bull’s difficult, but they’re getting closer. I mean, Brazil wasn’t a great example, but this second part of the season you’ve seen teams like McLaren, Mercedes, both fighting very closely with the Red Bulls.

“Max [Verstappen] has had that little advantage, but his team-mate hasn’t, so we could have an upset next year.

“I don’t think it’s going to be all Red Bull’s way. This year was an exceptional year for that team, and I don’t feel it will be the same next year, which is what the sport needs. We need a little bit of a mix up.”

Plenty of Formula 1 fans will hope Button is correct and we see a few shocks in 2024 to make things more interesting.

However, it’s a safe bet that Red Bull will still be the fastest team although whether Sergio Perez can last the whole year will almost certainly be a talking point.

The likes of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri will be hoping to earn their first race wins, while Fernando Alonso’s decade-long wait to secure win number 33 is always a talking point.

Whatever happens, the winter break will definitely feel too long and there’ll be plenty of excitement around pre-season testing when it begins.
