Former F1 driver Jaime Alguersuari has predicted that Aston Martin star Fernando Alonso won’t win a race during the 2024 season.
The 42-year-old two-time world champion has been waiting for more than a decade to add to his 32 wins.
Aston Martin don’t look like the fastest outfit this year and speaking to Jugones, via La Sexta, the 33-year-old doesn’t have much hope for his fellow countryman.
Alguersuari can’t see Alonso earning F1 win in 2024
Last season, Fernando Alonso appeared to make an inspired decision to switch Alpine for Aston Martin.
He stood on the podium eight times which was six more occasions than Alpine pair Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon.
Alonso ended up finishing fourth in the Drivers’ Championship, his highest finish since 2013 when he was driving for Ferrari.
He benefitted from Aston Martin nailing their winter developments and being the best of the rest behind Red Bull.
However, the rest of the grid closed the gap as the year went on and they’ve started this campaign as the fifth-quickest team.
Alguersuari is now sure that Alonso won’t win a race in 2024, which would extend his wait to stand on the top step of the podium to 11 years.

It makes sense that Alonso is now being linked with Mercedes with Lewis Hamilton moving on and they could provide him with a race-winning car.
His manager Flavio Briatore was also spotted with Christian Horner and he would certainly be a good match for Max Verstappen if he replaced Sergio Perez…
Alonso’s wait for another Formula 1 win goes on
Speaking about the 106-podium driver, Alguersuari said: “Alonso is managing a car that is not competitive. If you don’t evolve, the others are going to evolve. And that’s the problem with Aston Martin…”.
“They don’t have a car to win this year. Alonso wants to win a third world championship, but I don’t think it’s possible with this team. Not this year and not next year. It’s too complicated. It’s very complicated.”
Alonso will hope Alguersuari’s prediction doesn’t come true and he can earn that long-awaited win in 2024.
Martin Brundle commented during the Bahrain Grand Prix that Alonso looked ‘dispirited’ as he drove on his own for most of the race.
The team’s race pace was ‘not particularly impressive’ and that might be cause for concern for the Spaniard and his teammate Lance Stroll.
