Jack Aitken very impressed with 22-year-old F1 racer’s driving style

McLaren driver Oscar Piastri has been praised for his driving style as he once again impressed during his first Formula 1 season.

Former driver Jack Aitken, covering the Hungarian GP for BBC 5 Live, was commenting on the 22-year-old.

After a slow start to the season, McLaren are now one of the teams to beat.

They were disastrous at the start of the campaign, with Lando Norris finishing 17^th at the Bahrain Grand Prix and Oscar Piastri retiring.

McLaren had to wait until a chaotic Australian Grand Prix to record their first points finishes.

The team slowly improved over the course of the season, although they also had a very bad time in Miami.

However, the Austrian GP appears to have been a turning point for the team after the car received some upgrades.

Lando Norris narrowly missed out on a podium finish at arguably his favourite track.

Norris and Piastri were outstanding at Silverstone last weekend and the Australian’s driving style appears to really suit the McLaren.

McLaren might not have expected the Hungaroring to suit them as well as the British GP.

However, they impressed once again and the rookie is having the time of his life at his new team.

Piastri praised for his driving style

Speaking about the 22-year-old, Aitken said: “A few moments ago you could just hear the onboard sound of the McLaren [of Oscar] Piastri and he was looking really, really smooth, very gentle with that medium tyre there, really trying to get that to last and looking like he’s doing a pretty good job.”

Piastri was always going to be on the grid this season, but many didn’t expect it to be with McLaren.

After winning Formula 2 in 2021, he was named as Alpine’s reserve driver.

The idea was for the young Australian to take Fernando Alonso’s seat when he moved to Aston Martin.

However, despite it being announced on social media, Piastri explained that a deal was never agreed.

Instead, he replaced fellow Australian Daniel Ricciardo at the Woking-based team.

It didn’t take long for Ricciardo to find his way back onto the grid with AlphaTauri after Nyck de Vries was released.

It’s clear to see why McLaren wanted Piastri so badly as his driving style is exceptional for someone so young.

He’s the best-performing rookie on the grid this season and looks set to have a long future in F1 at this rate.
