For the first time since 2020, Ferrari will start next season with a line-up that isn’t Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz.

Lewis Hamilton has more Formula 1 race wins than any ever driver and Ferrari simply couldn’t turn down the opportunity to turn down the seven-time world champion for 2025.

Although Hamilton will be 40 by the time the season starts in Australia, his long-time rival Fernando Alonso is proving at Aston Martin that age is just a number.

Both Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz were nearing the end of their Ferrari contracts last winter and the Monegasque driver signed a new deal at the start of the year.

Sainz looked set to join him in putting pen to paper at Ferrari before the bombshell news broke at the beginning of February.

What followed was months of negotiations between Sainz and half the grid as he considered which outfit would be his fifth team on the F1 grid.

He eventually decided that Williams was the way to go, and in an interview with Marca, Sainz has now shared his thoughts on how he thinks Hamilton will fare in his place at Ferrari.

Not only that, but Sainz also discussed how another team on the grid made it clear that they wanted to sign him and haven’t ended their interest yet.

When asked about Hamilton joining Ferrari, Sainz said: “He and Leclerc are two great drivers, I’m sure they’ll have a good time.

“Binotto says he wouldn’t have signed Lewis? I don’t get involved in that, I’ll keep my opinion to myself and I’ll tell you about it at a dinner party one day.”

Recent talk about Flavio Briatore wanting Sainz at Alpine was also raised with the Spaniard and he continued: “It’s nice, since it was announced that I was no longer at Ferrari I received calls from many people in F1, many teams and important people, I have felt very respected and loved throughout the paddock.

“There are other places where they want you and you have to take the decision, as I did, calmly.”

Guenther Steiner tells Charles Leclerc what he must learn from Lewis Hamilton next year

It’s hard to look past the combination of Leclerc and Hamilton when discussing which driver line-up is the strongest on the grid next year.

McLaren will feel Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri are up there, while Sainz alongside Alex Albon at Williams should be the best pairing in the midfield.

Leclerc has 26 pole positions to his name, highlighting just how quick he is over one lap.

However, he’s struggled to convert those starts into victories, although this is also down to how dominant Red Bull have been over recent seasons on Sundays.

Guenther Steiner has now told Leclerc what he must learn from Hamilton once he arrives at Ferrari.

Hamilton will have to wait until after the post-season test in Abu Dhabi to make his debut for the team.

The 39-year-old will hope the wait is worth it after gambling on leaving the Silver Arrows after a decade-long association.
