Williams Racing driver Franco Colapinto has been one of the standout performers in recent races since he took over from Logan Sargeant.
The 21-year-old Argentine has scored points twice so far at Azerbaijan and US Grands Prix, although he retired from the Sao Paulo Grand Prix after crashing out 30 laps into the race.
It capped off a tough weekend for Williams after Alex Albon crashed out of qualifying and incurred too much damage for the team to repair in time for the race, owing to the condensed schedule due to the weather.
Colapinto’s drives have caught the eye of other teams in the F1 paddock, with him being linked to a potential future drive with Red Bull.
Discussing the possibility, journalist Ben Anderson revealed how much the team is willing to pay Williams to release him when speaking on The Race YouTube.
Red Bull willing to pay ‘a few million’ for Franco Colapinto release
The prospect of Colapinto earning a place of the grid increases with each race, given he has managed to improve Williams’ average points scored.
Visa CashApp RB is the only team that has not confirmed its lineup for the 2025 season, and Colapinto could be in the running but Williams might be asking for too much according to Anderson.
“Whatever price Williams have set, it’s miles beyond what Red Bull is willing to pay. We understand Red Bull would be willing to shell out a few million, but Williams is thought to value Colapinto at as much as three or four times as high as that,” said Anderson.
“Maybe that has something to do with the army of Argentine sponsors that has joined the car since Colapinto joined the team, but after he crashed twice in Brazil the price would’ve dropped a bit or Red Bull may raise an eyebrow over his top team suitability.”

Helmut Marko complimented ‘extraordinary’ Franco Colapinto
Colapinto spent two seasons in F3 and won four races to finish fourth overall in his second season, before getting promoted to F2 at the beginning of the year.
After making his debut with Williams and scoring points, Marko hailed Colapinto for being an ‘extraordinary’ talent behind the wheel.

Colapinto has shown he can take the initiative with his drives, having nailed a strategy during the US GP that Williams initially disagreed with that put him in contention to score points.
His popularity is also an unexpected plus, with thousands of Argentine fans making their way to Interlagos to support him over the Sao Paulo GP weekend.
