Red Bull could be set to lose yet another key figure to their operation in Gianpiero Lambiase.
Since 2024, the Milton Keynes outfit have seen multiple high-profile departures, including Adrian Newey. The legendary engineer and designer made the switch to Aston Martin in 2025 and will act as their team principal in 2026.

Jonathan Wheatley, Will Courtenay and Rob Marshall followed suit, and the departures grew even bigger in 2025. Team principal Christian Horner was sacked in July and relieved of all duties in September, with Laurent Mekies taking his place.
The Frenchman steadied the ship and guided Max Verstappen to within two points of winning the 2025 title. Despite this incredible comeback, the four-time champion lost another ally at the end of the season in Helmut Marko, and Lambiase could be next.

Adrian Newey and Gianpiero Lambiase are on ‘excellent’ terms amid Aston Martin links
Reports suggested on Saturday that Verstappen’s race engineer is in talks to join Aston Martin in 2026. The Silverstone outfit are said to be looking for one more senior figure, with Lambiase possibly in line to become their new CEO after Andy Cowell stepped down.
The British-Italian engineer has hinted at a possible change at Red Bull, with Lambiase not set to attend any races in 2026. But now, he could leave the team altogether and seek a new challenge at Aston Martin.
It would be a welcome move for Lawrence Stroll’s team, particularly for new team principal Newey, who had worked with Lambiase at Red Bull from 2015 to 2024. According to a report from La Gazzetta dello Sport, ‘GP’ is a ‘profile that Adrian likes’.
The pair ‘have remained on excellent terms’ since Newey left Red Bull last season. They played a part in Verstappen’s success between 2021 and 2024, providing guidance and the machinery to dominate the ground effect era.

Gianpiero Lambiase should be the final straw for Max Verstappen at Red Bull
Naturally, Red Bull are ‘very worried’ about losing Lambiase, due to the devastating effects it could have on Verstappen. The pair have built a strong bond and trust in Milton Keynes.
With GP not going to any races next season, Verstappen is set for a potentially uncomfortable change on the pit wall. The situation will be mitigated if he stays with Red Bull in another capacity, but losing him altogether could be damaging.
Verstappen has an exit clause in his contract in 2026 that allows him to leave if Red Bull are not competitive. Lambiase’s departure could be the final straw, as the 28-year-old has now lost several key figures within the team.
F1 fans think Verstappen is bound for Aston Martin if Lambiase decides to move to Silverstone. The team had offered him a huge contract in 2025, and Stroll would certainly not pass on the opportunity to sign him.
