Carlos Sainz has spent months fielding and largely dodging questions about his Formula 1 future.
Discovering a month before the season even started that he would be leaving Ferrari was the last thing that Carlos Sainz needed.
After narrowly missing out on finishing ahead of teammate Charles Leclerc in the 2023 Drivers’ Championship, team principal Frederic Vasseur decided to extend the Monegasque driver’s contract.
When it became clear that Lewis Hamilton was available next season from Mercedes, Sainz was the unfortunate driver who had to make way.
That doesn’t mean that Ferrari have simply abandoned Sainz and concentrated on Leclerc this season.
Although Ferrari currently sit third in the Constructors’ Championship, Red Bull’s recent struggles mean they’re still in the fight for that title and need both Sainz and Leclerc to be at their very best.

The car hasn’t been up to scratch in recent races although Leclerc is starting the Belgian Grand Prix on pole position three rows ahead of Sainz.
Journalist Diego Mejia was speaking on the Pit Pass Podcast about Sainz’s future and it seems like Ferrari’s staff are giving him pointers on the next steps he should take in his career.
There are only a few teams left on the grid with a seat available for him.
Williams have reportedly agreed a contract with Sainz for next season that includes a special release clause.
It’s a move that mimics what Ferrari staff are telling the 29-year-old given the teams he could potentially join in 2025.

High-profile Ferrari staff are telling Carlos Sainz to join Williams
Mejia: “Has Flavio Briatore really been hired to sell this team? I’m really not sure about the future of Alpine which has been an option for Carlos Sainz recently.
“Today [Friday] his father and his cousin who managed him were in the Williams motorhome holding some discussions.
“Last week in Hungary I was invited by Scuderia Ferrari for a breakfast with some high-profile people who were asked in this breakfast if they had to give advice to Sainz on where to go next year. What would he say?
“The answer was Williams. Coincidence? I wouldn’t think so.”

Williams hopeful of signing Carlos Sainz after months of waiting
F1Oversteer first reported that Williams expected to sign Sainz in June, highlighting just how long this saga has been going on for.
It’s unsurprising that Sainz has been keeping his options open, particularly as Sergio Perez is under pressure at Red Bull heading into the summer break.
However, it looks very unlikely that any of the top teams will have a vacancy next year for Sainz.
It means looking to the midfield and even then Sainz’s options are limited.
Flavio Briatore’s arrival at Alpine has harmed Sainz’s chances of partnering Pierre Gasly next season.
Audi are in a mess at the moment having just changed their leadership structure and the current Sauber team are still yet to score a point.
It means all roads lead to Grove and an exciting trio of James Vowles, Alex Albon and Sainz working together next year at Williams.
