Harry Benjamin admits he’ll ‘come under fire’ for his choice of F1’s most underrated current driver

There are some Formula 1 drivers who were more relieved to be hitting the summer break after the Hungarian Grand Prix than others.

McLaren’s Oscar Piastri leads the drivers’ championship by nine points over teammate Lando Norris, setting up a fascinating conclusion to the season.

Off the track, there is still plenty to be solved, too, with the Formula 1 driver market still playing host to some fascinating storylines.

Seats at the likes of Red Bull, Mercedes, and Alpine must be filled alongside vacancies at the new Cadillac team.

One F1 driver’s career could be ‘on the brink of collapse’ after being plagued by a terrible run of form during the 2025 campaign.

Max Verstappen’s decision to stay at Red Bull will be a relief to some, as the four-time champion could’ve created some silly season chaos by forcing a move for 2026.

Harry Benjamin admits he’ll ‘come under fire’ for picking Yuki Tsunoda as his most underrated F1 driver

Yuki Tsunoda must improve at Red Bull if he wants to stand any chance of extending his Formula 1 career beyond a fifth season.

The Japanese driver hasn’t been able to deliver the expected goods alongside the current reigning champion, and his position is under threat.

His deal expires at the end of the season, as does Honda’s partnership with Red Bull, which could leave him without a gig heading into the 2026 F1 regulations.

Verstappen could inflict an embarrassing stat on Tsunoda by lapping him at the next race, but that would take a very impressive performance.

Commentator Harry Benjamin has now controversially picked the 24-year-old as his most ‘underrated’ driver on the grid.

“I’ll come under fire for this because he’s under fire at the moment. Yuki Tsunoda. Underrated,” he said.

Which F1 teams could Yuki Tsunoda sign for in 2026?

If Red Bull drop Tsunoda, then he won’t have much time left to find another opportunity for next season. His agent may be preparing for that outcome already.

The most likely seats that he could be considered for are at Alpine and Cadillac, but the latter may be searching for some more experience for their first venture.

He feels like a solid fit at Alpine, but there’s bound to be plenty of interest in the seat alongside Pierre Gasly, which is currently held by Franco Colapinto.

It must be said that the Argentine driver is still probably the favourite to be in that cockpit next year, but he, too, needs to start scoring some points soon.
