Gutted Lewis Hamilton responds when asked if he still loves racing after point-less Hungarian Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton suffered yet another difficult weekend for Ferrari at the Hungarian Grand Prix.

The seven-time champion simply hasn’t adjusted to life at the Scuderia as he imagined he might. Sitting in sixth place in the drivers’ championship at the summer break is far from ideal.

Some time away may have arrived at a good time for Hamilton, who desperately wants to extract more pace from the SF25.

While Ferrari upgrades may have worked for teammate Charles Leclerc, they haven’t had the desired effect for him. Perhaps he needs more track time and understanding of them before unlocking more pace.

After starting on the hard tyre, Ferrari created Hamilton’s biggest ‘problem’ by ensuring that he would encounter traffic at the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Being on the back foot so often may be why Hamilton has developed a driving ‘habit’ that will be tough for his team to cure.

Lewis Hamilton insists that he still loves racing after point-less Hungarian Grand Prix

Leclerc would have loved what Hamilton immediately said after claiming pole position in Budapest. He praised his ‘amazing’ skills.

And rightly so, with the Briton languishing in 12th place. Even he has been left dumbfounded by his struggles at times.

Having a contract heading into the 2026 F1 regulations will mean little if Hamilton no longer has the passion or desire to race.

Sky Sports F1 (03/08, 4.32pm) questioned him about his love for motorsport after the Hungarian Grand Prix, to which he delivered a strong response.

“Not particularly [when asked if he could explain Saturday’s post-qualifying outburst],” he said. “When you have a feeling, you have a feeling. There’s a lot going on in the background that is not great.

“No, I still love racing.”

Anthony Davidson spotted Lewis Hamilton do something ‘unbelievably’ well at the Hungarian Grand Prix

Hamilton wasn’t ‘comfortable’ with a key issue and continues to battle his car under braking in 2025. His confidence is not where he would like it to be.

However, during Sunday’s race, braking wasn’t his only worry, as he battled many of his rivals in the midfield, one of whom was another surprise.

A struggling Max Verstappen found himself attempting an audacious move on Hamilton, which was subsequently investigated after the race, as the Ferrari driver took evasive action to avoid contact.

Sky Sports F1’s Anthony Davidson was impressed with his reactions, complimenting his awareness after the race.

“Lewis looking toward the apex, and obviously you can see somewhere in his mirror, unbelievably at those speeds, I must say, he can see where Verstappen is,” he said.
