Guenther Steiner has pointed out Max Verstappen’s ‘best option’ if he decides to leave Red Bull.
Although there is currently a five-week-long break in F1, Verstappen has continued to dominate the headlines.
Last week, it was announced that Verstappen’s race engineer, Gianpiero Lambiase, had agreed to leave Red Bull for McLaren in 2028.
Prior to the Lambiase news, Verstappen had already publicly expressed his discontent over the sport’s new regulations.
Most importantly, it was reported last month that Verstappen is ‘considering’ stepping away from F1 at the end of the current season.
Will Max Verstappen be a Red Bull Formula 1 driver in 2027?
Guenther Steiner urges Max Verstappen to ‘wait and see’
Appearing on the latest episode of the Drive to Wynn podcast, ex-Haas team boss Steiner spoke about the options that could be available to Verstappen if he leaves Red Bull.
He said: “I think his personality fits at Red Bull, but if he goes somewhere like Mercedes, do they really need him? They have two good drivers, one is an up-and-coming superstar, so why would they have a Max Verstappen for the amount he costs?
“McLaren, I think McLaren they have good team together with Lando and Oscar, so there is no space there, maybe if one of them moves on to somewhere else.
“Is he going to replace Lewis at Ferrari? Everybody wants to drive for Ferrari, but I don’t know how Max feels about that one.
“I think that one can get close a bit. If Lewis stops in one or two years, will Max go there? Because Lewis will not be there forever.”
Steiner continued: “The other team would be Aston Martin. If they get their act together, they will be strong. Honda, we know they can make an engine; they have shown it with Red Bull, won a lot of championships not long ago.
“For sure, there will be a place for him, he has worked with Adrian before, Adrian was the guy who designed the cars that he was world champion in. Maybe that is his best option, to wait and see until Aston Martin have sorted themselves out.”

Will Max Verstappen walk away from Formula 1?
However, Steiner does not believe that Verstappen will simply walk away from F1 but mentioned that he could be ‘looking around’ for new opportunities.
He added: “I don’t see it coming. If he needs to flip the switch, he will not do it.
“Is he leaving? No, he is still staying around, maybe he is looking around for his next opportunity in F1, because we have to think, he was in just one team for his whole career, maybe it’s time to change.
“I think, if he does something, he is looking ‘Where can I go to be a winner again and which car is best for me?’”
Having already made his feelings very clear about the new regulations, it is now down to the FIA to make changes to keep Verstappen in F1.
