Former Haas team boss Guenther Steiner has claimed that Toto Wolff now has his ‘revenge’ for missing out on Max Verstappen.

Dutchman Verstappen will forever be regarded as one of the best drivers in Formula 1 history, having already clinched four world titles at the age of 28.

However, before making a name for himself at Red Bull, Verstappen was linked with a move to Mercedes.

Wolff previously admitted that he spoke to Verstappen and his father Jos in 2014 about the possibility of signing for Mercedes

In the end, Wolff could not offer Verstappen a seat for the 2015 F1 season, and Red Bull snapped up the Dutchman. It was also reported that Wolff tried to sign Verstappen again after the 2020 season.

Toto Wolff has his ‘revenge’ for missing out on Max Verstappen

Speaking on the latest episode of the Drive to Wynn podcast, Steiner claimed that Wolff has now got his revenge for missing out on Verstappen.

The ‘revenge’ in question is Kimi Antonelli, who has enjoyed a stellar start to the 2026 season, having won back-to-back races in China and Japan.

Steiner said: “With Toto and Kimi, I think Toto still thinks back to when he didn’t get Verstappen, and this is now a little bit of revenge for him, like ‘I got the next superstar’.

“I think Toto is above favouring one driver, for him, the most important thing is that the team wins. That’s what Toto wants, Toto is there for Mercedes and Toto.”

After winning the last two races, Antonelli has been tipped as the new favourite to win the world title.

Guenther Steiner says Kimi Antonelli has it ‘easier’ than George Russell

When asked about whether George Russell could use his experience to beat Antonelli, Steiner was not too sure.

He said: “This is the next generation of drivers who can use this technology so much better because they grew up with more technology.

“For me, going into the season, George was the absolute favourite, even before testing, it was the moment of George Russell.

“But then, what happened with these cars, Kimi has no habits, and George has to get rid of old habits.

“We are not talking about the PU, the aerodynamics are completely different, you need to adapt, for Kimi it’s easier, everything is new, he doesn’t need to get rid of anything, but the others do.”
