Lewis Hamilton’s blockbuster move to Ferrari has been one of the biggest storylines throughout 2024, and he doesn’t even start there for a few more months.
The seven-time champion nearly broke the internet with his announcement of leaving Mercedes in February, as fans began to dream of a fairytale ending in red.
There are a few obstacles for the Brit to overcome before he can be considered a championship contender, but Ferrari appears to have the car to compete.
He must embed himself within a new team, with a new language, teammate and car to get on top of – otherwise known as new surroundings, which will take some time.

Guenther Steiner jokes that ‘nobody wants’ Mercedes data

“Nobody wants it [information],” he told The Red Flags podcast. “I don’t think Ferrari [care]. Maybe they want it to know what not to do.”
Will Mercedes ever win another championship?
On their current trajectory, it’s hard to see Mercedes winning any time soon – but at some stage in the future, things will come good for them.
They’re one of the biggest teams in the sport, with a huge workforce and experience in winning which few have over the last few decades.
Young Andrea Kimi Antonelli is one of the most promising talents to hit the tarmac in recent history, and much like Max Verstappen was for Red Bull, could be a golden ticket to success.

But he won’t be able to achieve much without having the car underneath him, which is where George Russell’s experience will come in handy.
Especially for the chance in technical regulations from 2026, they’re an outfit to watch out for, but for 2025, they may just be focusing on setting themselves up for the future.
