Former Formula 1 team founder Giancarlo Minardi has shared a warning to the rest of the grid after what he’s heard about Red Bull’s latest car.

Minardi was speaking to Gazzetta Motori and discussed the current Constructors’ Championship winners.

With Formula 1’s new regulations not fundamentally changing until 2026, almost every team will spend this winter trying to emulate the success of Red Bull.

Christian Horner’s team were incredibly dominant in 2023, only failing to win the night race in Singapore.

He relied heavily on Max Verstappen to ease to win after win with Sergio Perez struggling for much of the season to keep up with the Dutchman.

Unsurprisingly, Red Bull stopped working on the 2023 version of their car midway through the year when they realised they had an unassailable lead in both championships.

Giancarlo Minardi has now shared what he’s heard about Red Bull’s 2024 vehicle and it’s not good news for the rest of the grid.

During Sky Sports F1’s Review Show, Horner admitted that any updates they developed over the summer were going to be minimal given the diminishing returns associated with upgrading such a fast car.

However, he may have just been bluffing and it wouldn’t be a surprise to anybody if Adrian Newey had designed a car capable of taking another big step forward.

Minardi shoots warning to f1 grid over Red Bull’s 2024 car

Minardi was asked if Max Verstappen and Red Bull could potentially be caught next year to which he replied: “Everyone says yes, that they will be. But I would wait a bit to say that.

“They have an advantage that I think is difficult to close at the moment. Because when I analysed the 2023 races well, I got the idea that [Max] Verstappen never showed us the best of his ability.

“And that doesn’t give us much hope. And then I hear from England that their 2024 car is even better…”

Minardi’s warning that Red Bull could be even faster next year will worry the likes of Mercedes and Ferrari but hardly come as a surprise.

They’ve been at the forefront of the sport for years now and the new regulations being introduced in 2026 will hopefully level the playing field.

There’s no guarantee of that though and if Red Bull’s car this year is equally dominant, then they may be able to spend even more time working on their vehicle for the next big set of rule changes.

Something needs to happen to stop their cycle of dominance, but it may not happen as quickly as some fans hope.
