Giancarlo Fisichella has admitted that Red Bull star Max Verstappen has become nearly impossible to beat in Formula 1.
Max Verstappen was only defeated on three occasions last season and went on a run of 10 straight Grand Prix wins at one point.
Speaking to Paddock News 24, Fisichella talked about some of the current drivers that have most impressed him in 2023.
It’s impossible to look past Verstappen when analysing last season’s results as he cemented his place among Formula 1’s all-time greats.
Only a select number of drivers have ever won three world championships, but the nature of his domination of the sport is what has caught so many people’s attention.
He led over 1000 laps and aside from a difficult weekend in Singapore, his car was simply unbeatable.
Fisichella has suggested that Verstappen is a ‘cannibal’ on the grid in his Red Bull at the moment.
You could argue during some races this season he wasn’t even driving at 100% but was still comfortably in charge of proceedings.
It’s up to his rivals now to try and bridge that gap over the winter to make the championship more of a contest in 2024.

Fisichella raves about Red Bull driver Verstappen
Speaking about the Dutchman, Fisichella said: “Max Verstappen is a cannibal at the moment, very difficult to beat.”
Fisichella’s old team principal Flavio Briatore has argued that Verstappen’s dominance in the Red Bull ruined the world championship last year.
That might be slightly harsh on the 26-year-old as it’s hardly his fault that Red Bull’s rivals couldn’t keep up with them this year.
They stopped development of their 2023 car relatively early as well, meaning they’ve been improving on one of the most dominant cars in Formula 1 history for longer than most of their rivals.
The likes of Mercedes, Ferrari and McLaren will know the scale of the task ahead of them to try and regularly challenge for wins in 2024.
Even when other teams have been closer to Red Bull, Verstappen has been ruthless, as Lewis Hamilton has discovered in the past.
He appears to have matured off the track, but it will be interesting to see how he reacts if Sergio Perez gets his act together or if another team produce a car capable of challenging for wins.
