Franco Colapinto was unhappy with his Alpine team after they blundered a pit stop that cost him valuable time during the Hungarian Grand Prix.

The Argentine qualified in 14th place for the race having managed to get through into Q2, but Alpine would go on to have a race to forget on Sunday.

The pair would finish in last place on track, with Colapinto crossing the line in 18th and teammate Pierre Gasly in 19th.

The result comes amid turbulent times for Colapinto, whose seat could be under threat if his results don’t improve.

Colapinto was in the running for points, but a very slow pit stop effectively put an end to his race, with the Argentine voicing his frustration over team radio.

Franco Colapinto’s reaction to 10 second pit stop

It was a difficult race for Alpine as both their drivers struggled to make their tyres last, with both Gasly and Colapinto among the first drivers to pit.

Gasly managed to make the one-stop work but was lapping three seconds off the pace at the chequered flag, while Colapinto pitted for his first set and was delayed by 10 seconds.

His four-word response over team radio effectively summed up Alpine’s race, with the Argentine venting his frustration.

Colapinto: “Oh my god! Ugh.”
Engineer: “Ok mate, sorry about that. Lets get our heads down, we’ve got a clear track here so lets use the pace.”

Alpine drops further behind in Constructors’ Championship battle

The result comes amid testing times for Alpine, as the team struggles to improve on its position in the Constructors’ Championship at the midway point of the season.

Rivals Aston Martin, Sauber, and Racing Bulls all managed to secure points in Budapest, with the fifth and seventh places of Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll moving their team up to sixth overall.

Gabriel Bortoleto capitalised on another impressive qualifying session and finished in sixth for Sauber, while Liam Lawson finished ahead of Max Verstappen after the latter struggled throughout the race with poor car balance.
