Franco Colapinto’s manager shares update on his Alpine future at the Italian Grand Prix

Franco Colapinto remains just one of two Formula 1 drivers without a point during the 2025 season after the Italian Grand Prix.

In fact, the next man ahead of him in the drivers’ championship is Red Bull’s Yuki Tsunoda with 12 points, which shows how big the gap to his rivals is.

Alpine haven’t had the best car throughout the season, but it has been enough for Pierre Gasly to be 14th in the standings.

It feels like Colapinto may be walking on thin ice as the 2026 F1 regulations approach, and there remains no confirmation on his future.

F1 fans have told Alpine to sign Tsunoda next, after confirming Gasly to a contract extension last week. They think he can raise the bar set by their current second driver.

Flavio Briatore admitted he overestimated Colapinto before signing him last year, and it has shown on track in 2025.

Franco Colapinto’s manager issues ‘optimistic’ view on his Alpine future after the Italian Grand Prix

Even though Briatore has ‘slammed the door shut’ on one driver, it doesn’t mean that his current one is safe, too.

Most teams have their line-ups wrapped up before the end of the summer break, and the current situation at the Enstone-based outfit reflects poorly on the options they have on the table.

Colapinto has been told he’s ‘just not good enough’ for F1 by ex-driver and 1996 champion Jacques Villeneuve.

However, he might have a few more races to prove himself before his future is fully decided on. The clock is ticking, though, and his manager, Maria Catarineu, is very aware of it.

“We’ll see what happens, we’re doing our part, working, but hopefully everything will turn out well. I’m always optimistic,” she told Infobae.

Why Franco Colapinto has improved in one area with Alpine in 2025

Although it’s easy to direct criticism at Colapinto due to his lack of results compared with his rookie campaign with Williams, he has improved.

The Argentine driver retired from three of his last four races with them, but has yet to suffer a DNF in nine races with Alpine.

It means that he’s a little more consistent on a Sunday, even if his pace isn’t quite where he wants it to be. Alpine should consider replacing Colapinto, but not if they aren’t satisfied with their options.

Sticking with someone who knows the characteristics of their car and the team for another year would only help to stabilise a team which has suffered a lot of turbulence in recent seasons.
