Williams Racing driver Franco Colapinto faces a very uncertain future in Formula 1 before his career has even really started.
Franco Colapinto knew that he only had nine race weekends to impress when he stepped into Logan Sargeant’s Williams after the Dutch Grand Prix.
Colapinto is arguably a victim of Lewis Hamilton’s career decisions, as his move to Ferrari for 2025 has triggered a chaotic driver market to kick into action much earlier than normal.
By the time he made his unlikely debut, only two seats remained open on the grid – at RB and Sauber – with remaining at Williams alongside Alex Albon no longer an option.
James Vowles had already moved quickly to hire Carlos Sainz – ironically the man losing his seat to Hamilton – and he’ll still be very pleased with that decision given the Spaniard’s pedigree.

This leaves Colapinto with a conundrum as he has to decide whether to stay at Williams as a reserve driver or try and find a race seat elsewhere in the paddock.
Writing on his blog, journalist Joe Saward has shared the latest information he’s heard about the young Argentine’s future.
Colapinto was lauded by fans for overtaking Hamilton in Brazil, before bringing out a red flag after having his second big crash of the day.
F1 won’t want to lose the atmosphere and excitement Colapinto is generating and four teams on the grid are eyeing a potential move for the 21-year-old.
Four F1 teams ‘making offers’ for Williams driver Franco Colapinto
The report from Saward suggests that Horner’s visit to the Williams garage in Brazil was a ‘clear indication’ that he would like to sign Colapinto for 2025.
However, he goes on to say that Horner isn’t the only team principal interested in Colapinto.
Saward has said that he’s heard ‘RB, Alpine and Audi’ are all ‘making offers’ for Colapinto but each team will have varying chances of actually securing his signature.

He goes on to say that Williams are keen to do ‘what is best’ for Colapinto’s future, but they also recognise that this could be a very good opportunity to make some money from the 21-year-old.
That might help pay for the millions of pounds worth of damage Williams suffered in Sao Paulo after three huge crashes between their drivers on Sunday.
Which option seems the most likely for Franco Colapinto?
Williams have reportedly put a price tag on Colapinto for any team that wants to sign him, which may put a couple of outfits off.
Red Bull and RB are technically different manufacturers, but their drivers have contracts that allow them to move between teams if senior staff believe that’s the correct choice to make.

If Red Bull need a driver, it will be because Sergio Perez has been released, but on current form, promoting Liam Lawson and inserting Colapinto at RB seems the most sensible choice.
Alpine are interested in Colapinto, but it’s hard to see a move materialise given they’ve already confirmed their line-up for 2025.
Sauber would have been an available option earlier in the year, however, their terrible form and the impending arrival of Gabriel Bortoleto to replace Valtteri Bottas likely rule out that move for the Argentinian too.
The 2025 grid has almost fallen into place, but Colapinto may be an enticing piece of the puzzle that simply doesn’t fit into any of the remaining gaps.
