As Ferrari look to catch up to Mercedes and even McLaren, they are looking at bringing a major update to the Miami Grand Prix that could prove to be an equaliser.

Hamilton was less than pleased with Ferrari over the battery and power issues he faced during the Japanese Grand Prix.

These negative comments probably didn’t go down well at Maranello, as Hamilton likely received a slap on the wrist for his outburst.

But this frustration is understandable, and Ferrari are working to address it. In fact, Ferrari are set for a private test with Hamilton ahead of the Miami Grand Prix.

Ferrari’s return to racing in Florida could be the moment where Lewis Hamilton is appeased, as the team are working on a crucial update that will address his superclipping issue.

Ferrari set to introduce engine software upgrade at Miami Grand Prix

Paolo Filisetti of Gazetta is reporting that Ferrari are looking to make a software upgrade for the engine ahead of the Miami Grand Prix.

This update, which will improve the team’s battery management, charging strategies, and energy deployment, could help address Ferrari’s superclipping concerns.

“In time for Miami, Ferrari will bring a profoundly revised and corrected software in terms of electric charge management, charging strategies and the use of stored energy.

“Essentially, new algorithms that can give Leclerc and Hamilton the tools to avoid seeing the SF-26’s potential performance severely sacrificed due to superclipping…”

It was reported earlier that Ferrari wouldn’t be able to make this update in time for Miami due to FIA hurdles. However, it appears the update could still fall short due to a time crunch.

Ferrari working very hard to get new update ready for Miami

Filisetti added that Ferrari are facing a time crunch ahead of the Miami Grand Prix to get the update ready. He added that work at Maranello is ongoing, as Ferrari staffers are working tirelessly to get it done.

“As mentioned, the implementation of new algorithms will therefore be, at the PU level, the only cause for concern is whether the Scuderia will be able to carry out the change in time for Miami.

“For this reason, Ferrari’s engine department and electronics department are working vigorously to also arrive at an on-track verification of the validity of the new algorithms before the race in Florida.”

Ferrari have also questioned Mercedes and Red Bull over their use of emergency mode for performance, showing that they’re also trying to undercut their rivals while making upgrades of their own.

The Scuderia will be hoping that Ferrari return to Florida rejuvenated and ready to compete with Mercedes and McLaren, capitalising on their positive start to the season so far.
