Ferrari have reportedly made a decision on Lewis Hamilton’s race engineer situation ahead of the Miami Grand Prix.
Heading into the 2026 Formula 1 season, it was confirmed that Riccardo Adami would no longer serve as Hamilton’s race engineer.
During what was a tough first season with the Scuderia, Hamilton appeared to clash with Adami on multiple occasions as the pair struggled to build a relationship over the team radio.
In light of moving Adami to a different role within the team, Ferrari reportedly selected Cedric Grosjean as Hamilton’s new engineer. Grosjean previously worked at McLaren and was Oscar Piastri’s performance engineer.

At the start of the season, it was noted that Carlo Santi would be Hamilton’s interim race engineer due to Grosjean’s gardening leave.
With F1 currently in the middle of an extended break, it had been speculated that Grosjean would become Hamilton’s race engineer at the Miami Grand Prix.

Ferrari make decision on Lewis Hamilton’s new race engineer
According to Planet F1, Santi is set to continue as Hamilton’s race engineer despite suggestions that Grosjean could take over.
Santi was always labelled as a ‘short-term measure’, but he is set to remain in the role for the Miami Grand Prix.
It has been suggested that Ferrari have ‘no defined timeline’ for Hamilton to change from Santi to Grosjean.

What has Lewis Hamilton said about his race engineer situation?
Speaking earlier in the year, Hamilton stated that a change of race engineer during the season could disrupt his campaign.
He said to the media: “It’s actually quite a difficult period, because it (Santi’s appointment) is not long term. The solution that I currently have, it’s only going to be a few races.
“So early on into the season, it’s going to be switching up again and I’ll have to learn to work with someone new, so that’s detrimental to me.
“A season [like 2026 is] where you want to arrive with people that have done multiple seasons, that have been through thick and thin and calm. But it is the situation that I’m faced with and I’ll try and do the best I can. I think the team is trying to do the best they can to make it as seamless as possible.”
In truth, Ferrari need to decide on Hamilton’s race engineer sooner rather than later, especially after the Brit’s promising start to the 2026 season.
With all the attention focused on Hamilton’s performance, Ferrari have to make sure the 41-year-old gets the best support team to continue his upward trajectory.
