Carlo Santi has been a revelation for Lewis Hamilton as his race engineer at Ferrari in 2026, and now the team have confirmed his position moving forward.
The Italian was only meant to be in the role on an interim basis. After Riccardo Adami stepped back as Hamilton’s race engineer at the end of 2025, Ferrari signed Cedric-Michel Grosjean from McLaren to replace him.
However, a period of gardening leave meant that Grosjean could not start the 2026 season. He was meant to join Ferrari in Miami, but it did not materialise, with Santi stepping in on the pit wall – he has been the breath of fresh air that Hamilton has needed.

Ferrari have no plans to replace Carlo Santi as Lewis Hamilton’s race engineer
Almost immediately, Santi has proved to be a huge upgrade on Adami. His precise information and emotional support have been pivotal to Hamilton’s resurgence, with the seven-time champion winning his first race for the team in Barcelona.
Hamilton is already calling Santi ‘the Italian Bono’, and he more than deserved that nickname in Barcelona with his encouraging messages. Hamilton even said that Santi has reignited his love for racing, showing just how much of a difference he has made.

Of course, given that he is supposed to be in an interim role, many have questioned whether Santi will stay on a permanent basis. Hamilton does not want to change his team, and Ferrari have now confirmed that he will remain in his post.
Journalist Andrew Benson wrote via BBC Sport that a spokesperson from the team has confirmed that they do not intend to change the personnel around Hamilton.
They said: “Carlo and Lewis are working pretty well together and there’s no plan to replace him.”
What is the BIGGEST reason for Lewis Hamilton’s turnaround at Ferrari this year?
Hamilton has waxed lyrical about his new race engineer in recent weeks, calling him ‘absolutely awesome’ in Canada and emphasised how he is loving working with him.
The difference between Adami and Santi on the pit wall is night and day, and with Hamilton now second in the standings, 41 points behind Kimi Antonelli, he could be the key to his title charge and his eighth world championship.
