Ferrari have ‘accelerated’ plans to deliver ‘most important’ car update for the Singapore Grand Prix

Ferrari star Charles Leclerc will be wondering what he needs to do to win the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

For the past four seasons, Charles Leclerc has started the street race in Baku from pole position.

However, on each occasion, the Ferrari driver has failed to take the chequered flag and on Sunday he was denied by McLaren’s Oscar Piastri.

Ferrari would have closed the gap on both McLaren and Red Bull in the Constructors’ Championship were it not for a very late crash between Carlos Sainz and Sergio Perez.

McLaren and in particular Lando Norris were the big winners as the title contender managed to finish 4th – importantly ahead of Max Verstappen – despite starting the race in 15th.

Ferrari are not slowing down when it comes to the development of their car this season and sense an opportunity to pounce.

A report from Formu1a.uno has shared the latest plans team principal Frederic Vasseur and head of aerodynamics Diego Tondi have come up with for the Singapore Grand Prix.

The margins between the top four teams are excruciatingly close and every update’s value needs to be closely examined before deciding whether to fit it to the car.

McLaren decided against adding their new floor to the MCL38 because they were worried it might slow them down given the issues other teams have had with bouncing.

Ferrari rushing through new front wing update to try and be ready for the Singapore Grand Prix

The report from Formu1a.uno admits that the majority of Ferrari’s main updates for the second half of the season were added to the car in Monza.

Ferrari have taken a step forward in the last two races as Leclerc’s victory in front of the Tifosi demonstrated.

However, they now believes that plans to introduce a new front wing have been ‘accelerated’ so that it arrives in time for the race in Singapore, rather than after the impromptu three-week break in Austin.

The delivery of the new part is already on its way to the Marina Bay circuit and Vasseur and Tondi were responsible for rushing through what could be the ‘most important’ component of the ground effect cars.

Ferrari aren’t expected to know until after Austin if all of their updates have worked given the unique nature of the past two races alongside Singapore.

These upgrades are also expected to determine what the team prioritise as they continue development of the 2025 car with even more flexible front and rear wings in the pipeline given the current interpretation of the rules.

Charles Leclerc rues Azerbaijan Grand Prix mistake that cost him victory

Ferrari may argue that they should be heading to Singapore with back-to-back victories under their belt.

Leclerc’s unbelievable one-lap pace has earned him plenty of pole positions over the years and after the first round of pit stops he would have hoped to race into the distance in his battle with Piastri.

However, Leclerc has admitted he made one crucial mistake that cost him the win and allowed his young Australian rival to rack up his second victory of the season.

If Ferrari believe they can make their car even faster with another upgrade this weekend then Leclerc will once again fancy his chances on the high-speed street circuit.

Alternatively, Sainz prevented the Red Bull whitewash in Singapore last year and may want to add at least one more victory to his tally before he settles in for a midfield battle with Williams next season.
