Aston Martin star Fernando Alonso has shared what he would like to do when he finally decides to retire from Formula 1.
Alonso was speaking to GQ Espana and outlined his plans for the future.
The 42-year-old is in no rush to leave the paddock just yet and rumours that he might retire this season have already been brushed aside.
Fernando Alonso has infamously been stuck on 32 career wins in Formula 1 for a decade now.
Bad luck and some unfortunate team choices have prevented one of the finest racers of his generation from accruing as many wins as he deserves.
His Aston Martin at the start of the season looked capable of challenging Red Bull for race wings.
However, he had to settle for an impressive record of six podium finishes in his first eight races.
Alonso won’t want to retire from Formula 1 until he stands on the top step of the podium once again.
The Spaniard has already decided what he wants to do when he leaves the sport.

It’s safe to say his competitive nature will still be important and he’ll still be on four wheels.
However, the standard of the surfaces he’ll be racing on might be slightly different to what he’s used to right now.
Alonso reveals plans for when he decides to retire from Formula 1
Asked about his plans for the future, Alonso said: “When I retire from Formula 1, I would love to return to the Dakar.
“Trying to win the Dakar Rally is a clear goal in my career.
“It would complete me, make me happy and I think it would leave an almost unprecedented legacy. Winning in Formula 1, Endurance and rallying would complete the perfect circle of a racing driver.”
Alonso has already had a go at winning the Dakar Rally back in 2020.
He took part in three preparation events and finished third in the Al Ula-Neom Rally in Saudi Arabia, before finishing 13th in the Dakar Rally.
It’s unlikely that we’ll see Alonso retire from Formula 1 for some time given how quick he currently is.
He’s comfortably outperforming teammate Lance Stroll and will hope Aston Martin can provide him with a car that can challenge at the very front of the grid.
Ultimately, he won’t want to waste his time in F1 if he’s in a car that is only competing for minor points.
His performance in Interlagos will give him renewed hope going into 2024.
