The identity of both Cadillac drivers still isn’t known ahead of their debut Formula 1 season in 2026.
There are only 10 race weekends to go in the 2025 F1 season, but already nearly every team has turned their full attention to next year.
Among those teams are Aston Martin, even if they just had their best race of the season at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Fernando Alonso finished fifth, while teammate Lance Stroll wasn’t too far behind in P7.
| RANK | DRIVER | TEAM | POINTS |
| 1 | Lando Norris | McLaren | 25 |
| 2 | Oscar Piastri | McLaren | 18 |
| 3 | George Russell | Mercedes | 15 |
| 4 | Charles Leclerc | Ferrari | 12 |
| 5 | Fernando Alonso | Aston Martin | 10 |
| 6 | Gabriel Bortoleto | Sauber | 8 |

Martin Brundle suggested Aston Martin had brought a different car to the Hungaroring, such was the difference in their pace compared to the previous race at Spa.
However, with Adrian Newey hard at work at their Silverstone factory, Aston Martin are already pinning their hopes on 2026.
Cadillac are in a very similar position, as they gear all of their efforts towards being competitive at next year’s opener in Australia.
Alonso has now been asked about F1’s 11th team, and believes that they could do a lot worse than hire Aston Martin reserve driver Felipe Drugovich as one of their first two drivers.

Fernando Alonso hopes Cadillac sign Felipe Drugovich for the 2026 Formula 1 season
Fans got to take a closer look at Drugovich at the Hungarian Grand Prix when he stepped into Alonso’s car for FP1 after the Spaniard complained of a back issue.
It didn’t slow Alonso down as he achieved his best result of the season, but Drugovich was only three-tenths off Stroll at the end of the session, finishing ahead of Yuki Tsunoda and Franco Colapinto.
Speaking to UOL Esporte during the race weekend, Alonso was asked about the young Brazilian and said: “It would be great to see him in F1. He has incredible talent.
“He showed it in F2, but we also see it here every day when we work with him.
“His simulator work, some free practice sessions he did. He’s delivered the performance the team was asking for, even with limited mileage.
“It will be interesting to see him with a seat, and I hope it happens.”

Is Felipe Drugovich in contention to race for Cadillac next season?
Cadillac team principal Graeme Lowdon has a plethora of options at his disposal ahead of next season.
Valtteri Bottas has agreed terms with Cadillac, and he could be joined by experienced Mexican driver Sergio Perez next season.
However, no driver has put pen to paper on a contract yet, keeping the door open for Drugovich to impress Cadillac staff.
The former Formula 2 champion has been patiently waiting for his chance at Aston Martin, and even when Stroll was too injured to race in Spain earlier this season, Drugovich wasn’t called upon.
| TEAM | DRIVER 1 | DRIVER 2 |
| Alpine | Pierre Gasly | Franco Colapinto |
| Aston Martin | Fernando Alonso | Lance Stroll |
| Audi | Gabriel Bortoleto | Nico Hulkenberg |
| Cadillac | Valtteri Bottas | Sergio Perez |
| Ferrari | Charles Leclerc | Lewis Hamilton |
| Haas | Esteban Ocon | Oliver Bearman |
| McLaren | Lando Norris | Oscar Piastri |
| Mercedes | George Russell | Kimi Antonelli |
| Racing Bulls | Liam Lawson | Arvid Lindblad |
| Red Bull Racing | Max Verstappen | Isack Hadjar |
| Williams | Alex Albon | Carlos Sainz |
Drugovich has been described as Cadillac’s top target alongside Bottas, but his lack of competitive racing since 2022 might count against him.
He’s turned out for Cadillac in IMSA, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans should give the team plenty of information about how quick he is.
Gabriel Bortoleto has shown how passionate Brazilian fans are to have one of their drivers on the grid, and Cadillac won’t be able to ignore the possibility of Drugovich potentially generating that level of hype next season.
