Aston Martin star Fernando Alonso has criticised a ‘luxury’ that only Ferrari get amid concerns over the Miami Grand Prix.
It was another tough qualifying day for Alonso as he only managed to put his Aston Martin in P18 with the AMR26 continuing to be problematic.
Although the car’s reliability has improved, it is clear that Aston Martin are still lacking the performance required to get themselves further up the grid.
Alonso’s teammate, Lance Stroll, will start Sunday’s Miami Grand Prix in P19, with only the Cadillac duo of Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas, plus Audi’s Gabriel Bortoleto behind them.
Ahead of the main race, concerns have been raised due to the weather forecast, which is currently predicting thunderstorms and heavy rain.
It was previously claimed that a meeting would be held to decide whether the Grand Prix’s start time would be moved forward in order to avoid the worst of the weather.

Fernando Alonso on Ferrari ‘luxury’ amid concerns over Miami Grand Prix
Speaking after the qualifying session, Alonso was asked about how the race could unfold if it were taking place around a wet track.
In response, the Spaniard was critical of Ferrari having the ‘luxury’ of doing wet tyre testing with Pirelli, he also claimed that Aston Martin simply do not have the pace to compete.
He said to DAZN: “It won’t change anything whether it’s wet or dry; a bit of mixed conditions is good, just in case. I don’t think we have the pace in either the wet or the dry.
“Only Ferrari does private tests with Pirelli and rain tyres; we don’t have that luxury. So if it rains, we’ll do the same test Ferrari already did.“

Back in April, during F1’s month-long break, Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton was spotted taking part in a private wet tyre test with Pirelli at the Scuderia’s Fiorano circuit.
The test took place to provide Pirelli with data in order to aid development work on the company’s tyres for 2027.
As per F1’s official website, Hamilton completed 142 laps on full wet and intermediate tyres.
In addition, the track surface in Fiorano was artificially watered using an irrigation system, which created consistent wet conditions for Pirelli to extract data from.
