Felipe Massa doesn’t want to see his former Ferrari teammate go through ‘one of the worst years’ of his career with Aston Martin.

Fernando Alonso has every right to be frustrated with where his career is right now. While Alonso’s criticism of the new regulations garnered attention, a lot of his anger will be directed toward Aston Martin.

The footage of Alonso struggling to drive due to vibration issues caused an uproar among fans, as many felt Aston Martin were putting the two-time world champion in jeopardy.

Alonso is reportedly causing trouble at Aston Martin as they try to navigate out of the dire situation they find themselves in.

However, his former Ferrari teammate, Felipe Massa, doesn’t want to see the Spanish veteran spend the final few years of his career wasting away like this in Formula 1.

Felipe Massa urges Fernando Alonso to retire from Formula 1 and pursue other motorsport opportunities

When speaking to Spanish outlet Jugones, Felipe Massa was asked about what he thinks Fernando Alonso should do amid struggles with Aston Martin.

Ever the straight shooter, Massa admitted that Alonso’s time in Formula 1 is over, and he shouldn’t put himself through one of the worst years of his career, and focus on new opportunities instead.

“Fernando’s moment has already passed. It is time to come compete in other races. It is going to be one of Fernando’s worst years. You have to be patient… but being patient at 44 years old is not easy”.

Alonso has made it no secret that his career is coming to an end. For an absolute icon of the sport, his current situation is far from fitting.

Aston Martin will want to do right by him. But given the glaring issues with the Honda power unit, Alonso might not get to see the positive results of this dynamic.

Pedro de la Rosa says Fernando Alonso deserves ‘justice’ before retirement

Pedro de la Rosa, Aston Martin’s team ambassador, spoke recently with Cadena SER, where he admitted his worry that Fernando Alonso could retire without getting a chance to drive the fully realised version of the AMR26.

“I have always said that justice must always prevail in sport, and justice would be for Fernando to leave sport through the front door, winning.”

“For now, there are still 20 races ahead, and we have to continue dreaming that we can come back, but it is something that I cannot get out of my head.”

“I don’t know if it will be his last year or not, but I think neither will he. Regardless of when Fernando makes the decision, we have to give him a more competitive car.”

Alonso has been privately critical of Aston Martin and their failure to deliver a complete and competitive car. It’s clear that the 44-year-old is growing impatient, as Massa suggested he would.
