The future of Sergio Perez has been a hotly debated subject in Formula 1 following a lacklustre season at Red Bull.
For a while, it looked like Daniel Ricciardo was being lined up as Perez’s replacement after the summer break, following a torrid run of results for the Mexican.
After crunch talks between Christian Horner and Helmut Marko, the decision was taken to keep Perez amid their car struggles because they felt Ricciardo had not improved enough to warrant a promotion.
The Australian would ultimately be replaced by Liam Lawson after the Singapore GP, after Red Bull was forced to honour a vital clause in his contract that would have seen him move to another team outside of Red Bull if they did not give him a seat after September.
Taking to social media in the aftermath of the Ricciardo news, Perez made a post on X (formerly Twitter) which appeared to respond to rumours surrounding his future and it has generated a response from fans of the Mexican.
Fans react to Sergio Perez ‘Wolf of Wall Street’ social media post
Perez posted a video from the movie Wolf of Wall Street in response to rumours about his future.
Fans reacted to the video, which has now amassed 7 million views, with messages of support considering it was widely speculated that he could end up being replaced following the four-week break between Singapore and Austin.
One user wrote: “Oh, goodness me. @SChecoPerez has single-handedly taken away every clickbait media’s chance to milk this “autumn break” with speculative coverage.”
Another user said: “The Mexican way to deny rumours?” while another fan showed their support for their favourite driver: “OMG I LOVE U FOR THIS.”
Some fans appeared to think this was confirmation that Perez is expected to see out the season: “Checo enjoying a well-deserved break! He’s not leaving.”

Sergio Perez ‘in breach of contract’ at Red Bull before Liam Lawson audition
Red Bull is reportedly already entitled to ‘part ways’ with Perez because he failed to meet a performance clause in his contract.
Perez fell short of a pre-summer break target set out by the team in his current contract. He left the Belgian Grand Prix with 131 points, which was 146 fewer than Max Verstappen.

The Mexican needed to be at least 100 points within Verstappen at this stage, otherwise Red Bull would be entitled to make a change.
The points deficit between Perez and Verstappen has been the subject of increased scrutiny after McLaren overtook them in the Constructors’ Championship after the Azerbaijan GP and now leads by 40 points.
