F1 team ‘interested’ in Yuki Tsunoda and his ‘strong commercial package’ for the 2027 season

Yuki Tsunoda is looking to find a way back onto the Formula 1 grid. He has a strong financial backing behind him, and he is receiving interest from ‘at least one’ team for 2027.

Having lost his seat with Red Bull at the end of 2025, the Japanese driver has stayed with the team as their reserve driver in 2026.

Should Yuki Tsunoda really be thanking Helmut Marko?

Tsunoda is not giving up on F1 and is determined to return to the grid. However, his chances of returning to Red Bull are unlikely, with Max Verstappen contracted until 2028 and Isack Hadjar recently joining the team.

A return to Racing Bulls is also likely out of the question, so the 25-year-old is facing the prospect of leaving the Red Bull family altogether. Fortunately, he is not shy of suitors.

‘At least one’ F1 team is interested in Yuki Tsunoda for 2027

A report from F1.com states that Tsunoda could play a role in the F1 driver market for the 2027 season. ‘Sources’ indicate that ‘at least one’ team is interested in signing the Japanese driver.

As aforementioned, Tsunoda is acting as Red Bull’s reserve driver in 2026 and will be called upon if and when he is needed. But a permanent seat with the team, or the junior team, is unlikely for 2027.

The 25-year-old does bring a ‘strong commercial package’, with him being backed by Honda throughout his F1 career.

Honda tried to keep Tsunoda at Red Bull in 2026 with a last-ditch offer to the team. However, it was rejected, with both parties leaving the team at the end of 2025.

Haas could be Yuki Tsunoda’s most likely destination

The Japanese driver has been linked with several teams since his exit from Red Bull. Alpine has been mentioned as an option, with Franco Colapinto facing pressure to keep his seat in 2027.

However, his most likely destination, and the team that could be interested in him, as per the report, is Haas. Esteban Ocon is under increasing pressure to stay in F1 as he continues to be outperformed by teammate Ollie Bearman.

How much have Haas improved since Ayao Komatsu took over from Guenther Steiner?

Ayao Komatsu is a huge fan of Tsunoda, and could give him a route back to F1 should Ocon be dropped. Haas are partners with Toyota, but Honda would be willing to let their driver leave to explore other options.

Ocon had a ‘fallout’ with Komatsu in Miami, fuelling further speculation that he could be out of the team at the end of the season. Only time will tell if Tsunoda will fill the void, or get back onto the grid at all.
