F1 fans have had their say on the next manufacturer they would love to see join the Formula 1 grid following Audi and Cadillac’s entrance into the sport at the start of next season.

Cadillac will enter F1 as a brand-new constructor in 2026, marking the first time in ten years that the grid will feature 22 cars at each race weekend.

Despite the start of the new season being just over six months away, the American constructor has yet to announce who will be driving for them in their maiden campaign. Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez look the most likely, as the experience they’ll bring with them will be invaluable for such a new team.

Jonathan Wheatley is looking forward to Sauber’s rebrand to Audi, which will come into effect ahead of next year’s new regulations. The team principal highlighted it as something ‘everyone’ in F1 should be excited about.

Porsche is the next big car manufacturer F1 fans want to see join the grid

In a recent discussion posed to fans of F1 Oversteer’s Facebook page, F1 fans were asked what manufacturers they would like to see join the grid ahead of Audi’s rebrand of Sauber and Cadillac’s brand-new entry in 2026.

Porsche was one of the names that was thrown around a lot by users in the discussion thread, with fans wanting to see another German constructor join alongside Mercedes and Audi.

One fan would have liked to see Porsche on the grid next season instead of the famous four rings, writing, “Porsche should have gone in instead of Audi, in my opinion.”

Another user even posed the idea of BMW also joining Porsche in entering F1, commenting, “I’d love to see either Porsche & BMW back in F1, either as a team or engine supplier.”

Someone else shared a similar sentiment of Porsche and BMW joining the grid, referencing the deep pool of talent they have driving for them in other racing categories, posting, “Porsche, BMW, Lamborghini. Teams that currently compete in endurance racing and have drivers who know the F1 circuits.”

Another user’s reasoning for choosing Porsche was down to the success that has come from the aforementioned other racing categories, writing, “Porsche and Toyota… Superb cars, superb engines. They’ve been dominating other motorsports events.”

Some users also see an opportunity for Porsche to join the grid without having to go through the same process as Cadillac of creating a new entry from scratch. One user posed the idea, “Sell RB to Porsche,” whilst another saw Alpine as a possible option, posting, “Porsche should buy Enstone from Renault.”

Christian Horner blocked Porsche from buying a 50% stake in Red Bull before Ford deal

Porsche was mightily close to creating a partnership with Red Bull Racing in 2022 when the Austrian constructor was on the hunt for an engine partner as they looked ahead to the 2026 F1 regulations.

However, the German giants didn’t just want to partner with Red Bull; Porsche wanted to buy 50% of the team instead. This led Christian Horner to veto the agreement, as he feared that the consequences of the deal would lead to his power at the team being diluted.

Following the news of the breakdown in talks, figures at Ford reportedly contacted Horner directly in hopes of picking up the pieces and getting their own foot in the door in Formula 1.

The decision may come back to bite Red Bull in the future, with rumours suggesting Red Bull’s 2026 engine is weaker than that of their rivals. Only time will tell, in that regard.
