F1 fans upset with Singapore Grand Prix official broadcast as ‘very sad’ Fernando Alonso point made

Fernando Alonso provided all the entertainment at the Singapore Grand Prix as he came home seventh for Aston Martin.

The Spaniard looked to have strong pace around the Marina Bay Circuit, as Alonso topped the timesheets in FP1. He carried that into qualifying as he got his AMR25 into Q3, lining up 10th for the race.

The two-time champion got more points on the board for Aston Martin as he finished P7 at the Singapore Grand Prix, but his race was far from smooth. A slow pit stop halfway through the event prompted Alonso to threaten to disconnect his radio.

That was not the only tense exchange he had over his radio, as he battled hard with Isack Hadjar, who was suffering from engine trouble. Alonso produced a sensational overtake at turn 13, before referring to the Frenchman as the ‘hero of the race’ for holding up the pack.

The Aston Martin star crossed the line eighth behind Lewis Hamilton, but he was promoted to P7 after the Ferrari driver was hit with a five-second time penalty for track infringements. He had been cutting the track due to a brake issue, with Alonso unleashing fury over his radio at Hamilton.

Alonso’s performance was awarded with ‘Driver of the Day’ from the fans. But despite his entertaining race, very little was shown on the official broadcast, including his ambitious move on Hadjar and his outburst towards Hamilton.

Fans were not impressed with the TV direction after the race, as they expressed their anger on X (formerly Twitter) about the lack of footage of Alonso.

“That’s why you should follow them on Twitter; you find out more things here than by watching/listening to TV,” pointed out one fan, while another said: “It’s very sad, but that’s what we have to deal with for now. In 2026, we’ll see at least that they’ll put more in. I’m going to think that.”

One user wrote: “A distinctive feature of F1 broadcasting compared to other categories is that, due to the limited action on the track, they often show the battles at the back of the grid to fill the broadcast with something. So, there’s little excuse.”

Another fan noted that even the Spanish broadcast missed Alonso’s moves: “Lobato and company take more than three laps to realise that Alonso has overtaken. The production is embarrassing, but the commentators don’t seem to be paying attention to the movements on the left panel.”

“It’s just that in the end I see the best shots on Twitter. Pathetic stuff from @F1. Domenicali should stop with the Sprints and b——- and give a kick to the F1 production. It seems like showing Fernando as the best hurts them,” wrote one disgruntled fan.

Finally, another user noted how the Spaniard was not alone in being neglected by the broadcast: “Alonso wasn’t the only one; Colapinto and Sainz also had a great start, one moving up three places and the other starting in 18th and finishing in the points, yet they weren’t even shown on TV.”

Fernando Alonso impressed by Aston Martin’s pace despite slow pit stop in Singapore

Speaking after the race, Alonso was left pleased with the Silverstone outfit’s speed over the weekend in Singapore: “We had a good race tonight and the car was behaving well. I enjoy racing here and it’s very physically demanding too.

“We showed good pace on both stints and the team made a good call to fit the Medium tyres, as that enabled us to fight back after a slow pit stop. Hopefully we can score some more points at the remaining rounds of the Championship.”

His P7 moves him ahead of teammate Lance Stroll for the first time in 2025. Alonso has registered more points finishes than the Canadian this season, with seven compared to his five.

The Spaniard is finally starting to put regular points on the board, having scored his first points of 2025 in Barcelona. F1 fans think Alonso is the unluckiest driver on the grid, with numerous mechanical issues and operational errors hampering his season.
