Ferrari is bringing a significant upgrade to their car for the Belgian Grand Prix after introducing the new floor to their car in Spielberg.

It is supposed to be the upgrade that will get Ferrari’s season back on track, after a series of disappointing results for both Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton.

Since Ferrari’s disqualification in China due to excessive skid block wear, the Italian outfit has been wary that a similar scenario could play out at some races.

Leclerc was told by his engineer at the Austrian GP to be wary of plank wear by staying off the harsh kerbs at the track, which is what eventually led to them being unable to challenge McLaren for the win.

Hamilton was asked about Ferrari’s Belgian GP upgrades in the Drivers’ Press Conference, and fans thought he gave a great response when asked about a recent filming day for the team.

The upgrades to the rear suspension of the Ferrari are the first that chassis technical director Loic Serra has influenced, with Ferrari recently taking part in a filming day at Mugello with the new parts.

Hamilton was asked about the day, but remained coy about the specifics when it was put to him that they were testing new parts.

Hamilton: “We didn’t test. It was a photo shoot day. So we did 10 laps, which was not a test.”
Clarkson: “Granted, but how did the car feel?”
Hamilton: “The same as the week before.”

Fans on social media reacted to Hamilton’s answer, with one saying: “Lewis and his wonderful answers.”

Another fan wrote: “The GOAT being cheeky and downplaying the upgrade.” One fan added: “Perfect answer.”

A couple of fans were mixed on what Hamilton said, having not seen the impact on their performance on track yet, with one writing: “Ferrari never disappoints” while another said: “Mixed feelings after watching Lewis interview.”

One fan posted a GIF with the caption: “And the Oscar goes to…” implying that Hamilton and Ferrari were using the filming day to shake down the new upgrades.

Ferrari upgrade critical to getting season back on track

It has been a disappointing season so far for Ferrari after challenging for the Constructors’ Championship last year and showing promising form, having yet to win a Grand Prix at the halfway point.

Their only high came when Hamilton won the Sprint race in China after leading from pole, but since then they have not had the same form.

Leclerc has indicated that Ferrari might be in for a tough Belgian GP due to the weather forecast, despite taking his maiden victory with the team at the track in 2019.

Rain is forecast for both Friday and Saturday, which could impact their ability to gather any meaningful data on their car upgrades.
