Oliver Bearman was given another outing with Ferrari in 2024 at the Mexico City Grand Prix, but it did not go according to plan for the Brit.

Bearman made his F1 debut with the Maranello squad in Jeddah replacing the ill Carlos Sainz and went on to finish seventh. The 18-year-old returned to F1 in Baku, this time for Haas replacing the suspended Kevin Magnussen, where he finished 10th.

Subsequently, Bearman the first driver in F1 history to score points in his first two races for two different teams. The Brit will join the grid full-time in 2025 with Haas alongside Esteban Ocon.

Ahead of his switch to F1, Bearman was given another opportunity in an F1 car at the Mexico City Grand Prix, driving Charles Leclerc’s SF-24 in FP1. But his second outing with Ferrari was brought to an abrupt halt early in the session.

Bearman was on the outside of the track on the exit of turn 11 when the Williams of Alex Albon appeared to lose the back end of the car at speed. The Thai driver speared into the Ferrari and collected his front right tyre.

Albon slammed violently into the barriers and suffered significant damage, while Bearman was also taken out of the session after his front left tyre was damaged. After the accident, Albon was heard calling the 18-year-old an ‘idiot’ over the radio and he appeared to pin responsibility on the Ferrari driver.

But fans on X did not take too kindly to this as they swarmed the comments section with criticism towards Albon.

One user said: “Albon calling himself an idiot is a nice touch”, while another echoed the same view: “I’d hope Albon is talking about himself…”

Another user wrote: “How can Albon blame Bearman for that[?]”

While another was not impressed at all with Albon’s message: “And Albon calls Bearman “idiot“….. honestly… why?! It’s his fault.”

One user could not understand how Bearman was at fault for the crash: “Anybody who tries to claim Ollie is at fault is straight up wrong, Alex lost the car by himself.”

While another pointed out Bearman’s position on track before Albon appeared to lose the car: “He’d already lost control and hit the car nowhere near the racing line.”

Alex Albon is ‘under pressure from Franco Colapinto at Williams

Albon may be the number-one driver at Williams, but with Franco Colapinto replacing Logan Sargeant for the remainder of the season from Monza onwards, the Thai driver has come under much more pressure from his new teammate.

Colapinto has been on the pace of Albon almost immediately and has scored five points from four races so far in F1, which is four more than what Sargeant managed in nearly two years at Williams.

The Argentine has beaten Albon in the last two races, doing so convincingly at the United States Grand Prix as Colapinto finished 10th while his teammate could only manage 16th.

The 21-year-old’s former F2 team principal Sander Dorsman believes Colapinto is in Albon’s head as he continues to show his ability in F1. The only issue is that he will not have a seat with Williams in 2025, as Albon and Carlos Sainz have their seats secured for next year.
