Halfway through the 2025 Formula 1 season, and it looks like one of the McLaren drivers will win the title now that they are nearly 100 points clear of Max Verstappen.
McLaren emerged as the title contenders as early as the 2024 season when Norris mounted a late surge to a Drivers’ Championship against Verstappen, but it was ultimately the Dutchman who got the job done.
Although the Briton went into the season as the favourite, having clinched the Constructors’ Championship for McLaren in 2024, Piastri has now emerged as the most consistent of the pair.
McLaren have handled on-track situations incredibly well with their drivers by defining clear guidelines on what is and isn’t acceptable. Even in the aftermath of their collision in Canada, Norris swiftly moved on and won the next race in Austria.
Now it has emerged how McLaren plans to celebrate if one of their drivers wins the title, and F1 fans have taken to the social media website Reddit to express their opinions.

F1 fans think McLaren has learned from Mercedes fallout with celebrations plan
According to a report in The Race, McLaren plan to ask both Norris and Piastri how the celebrations are conducted so the losing competitor is factored into how it is handled.
Fans reacted in unison to the news, with one commenting: “Honestly, this feels like a super reasonable thing to do? It’s not a situation where one driver is clearly running away with the championship, so the other has time to mentally prepare himself before it’s mathematically impossible—whoever loses could very much still be in it until the last checkered flag of the year flies.”
Another user felt that McLaren have shown great support for their drivers: “I also think it’s smart that they aren’t saying ‘here’s how we’re going to handle it’, but rather thinking ahead to ask each of them to envision that situation and reflect on how the team can best support them individually in that moment.”
Recalling years gone by in F1, one fan commented: “I don’t remember a team handling a situation like this, with two evenly matched drivers, as well as McLaren does at the moment. Of course, both drivers are relatively easy to work with, but still, they always try to find a solution.”
Another user drew comparisons to what happened with Mercedes between Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg: “Good management. I’m sure McLaren have looked at what happened with Mercedes back in 2014 through 2016 and how they can improve on what Mercedes did.”
Other fans also praised the decision-making: “It’s just considerate management,” while another commented: “I just love that McLaren let them race! May the best driver win!!”

McLaren has changed a lot since the bitter Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso rivalry
One of the biggest rivalries of the early 00s was between Hamilton and Fernando Alonso at McLaren, which only lasted a season before the Spaniard fell out with senior management.
McLaren also have a chequered history with teammate rivalries, notably between Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna, which would often turn sour on track with their pair colliding in heated battles.
Things are more measured between Piastri and Norris, with Andrea Stella recently noting how their relationship has improved despite the intense title battle.
McLaren have certainly learned a lot about managing two great rivals compared to years gone by, as they have not lost focus of it being a team effort.
