F1 fans disappointed with ‘low-level’ Helmut Marko attack on Christian Horner after Red Bull exit

Red Bull will be without Helmut Marko and Christian Horner for the first time in the team’s Formula 1 history from the start of the 2026 season.

Over the last 18 months, the team has gone through a heavy transition, and a senior management overhaul means that a lot of their biggest names have now officially departed.

Still, Max Verstappen remains and is entering a new era with them, starting with the 2026 F1 regulations, but there are a few unknowns.

With Red Bull bringing their own engines from next year, they’re one of the toughest teams to predict the performance of over the next 12 months.

Marko was really annoyed by his final Verstappen talk and wanted to be able to bid farewell to his close friend in person.

Since then, Marko has accused Horner of ‘dirty tricks’, and was not pleased with his ex-colleague towards the end of their spell at Red Bull.

F1 fans think Helmut Marko’s ‘low-level’ attack on Christian Horner is ridiculous

Sebastian Vettel lacks ‘enough support’ to return to Red Bull, according to Marko, who believes that there isn’t a very strong chance of the four-time champion taking his old role.

The 82-year-old’s recent rant towards Horner, accusing him of purposefully working against him and doing things to harm his reputation, hasn’t gone down too well on social media.

Speaking on X (formerly known as Twitter), fans reminded Marko that some of the things he said were available on TV.

“Adds a lot to his credibility, blatantly lying about not saying things freely available on video,” said one fan.

“No, he literally said it to a camera. It being brought up so often might have been Horner,” replied another.

“What would Horner gain from suspending him? The same people that fired Horner fired him as well,” pointed out another fan.

While another individual had an entirely different view: “Glad they’re both gone. The organisation was stale, and it was costing Max.”

“Marko’s selective memory kicking in again,” added someone else, before one last response was a reminder of how far the two have fallen recently, “Sad seeing Red Bull legends fighting on such [a] low level. Sad [day for] a Red Bull fan.”

Will Helmut Marko or Christian Horner return to Formula 1 after leaving Red Bull?

Leaving Red Bull brings Marko ‘relief’, now that he no longer has to fly to so many races around the world, which can be difficult for anyone, let alone someone of his age.

He has done a strong job of that in recent years, but the Milton Keynes-based outfit have ultimately decided that they can go on without him after 2025, and it doesn’t look like he’ll return to the paddock.

For Horner, on the other hand, it’s all about timing. He can’t return to work until April, but it will have left him with plenty of time to size up his next move.

It won’t be Aston Martin, after Lawrence Stroll ruled the possibility out, but it will be somewhere that he can get a stake in a team. It depends on who is willing to listen to his offer.
