F1 fans blame Ferrari for ‘ruining’ Charles Leclerc’s Hungarian Grand Prix after team radio outburst

Charles Leclerc missed out on converting his shock pole into Ferrari’s first victory of the 2025 season at the Hungarian Grand Prix.

The Ferrari driver led for most of the race and utilised a two-stop strategy, but in the final stint, he came under pressure from McLaren.

Oscar Piastri pitted a couple of laps later than Leclerc, while Lando Norris stayed out on the one-stop strategy.

To conserve his win, Leclerc needed to overtake Norris in the final stint, but the Monegasque suddenly lost pace, causing him to lose positions to both Piastri and George Russell.

Leclerc fumed over team radio: “This is so incredibly frustrating. We have lost all competitiveness. You just had to listen to me. I would have found a different way of managing these issues. Now it’s just undrivable. Undriveable. It will be a miracle if we finish on the podium.”

F1 fans reacted to the team radio messages over social media website X (formerly Twitter), believing that Ferrari failed to listen to Leclerc’s advice.

F1 fans blame Ferrari for Charles Leclerc losing Hungarian Grand Prix

Fans were left unhappy with the situation that played out at Ferrari, having gone into the race looking at their first win of the season.

One fan wrote: “Another raced ruined by the pit wall,” while another fan said: “Leclerc should go and find a team which knows how to manage an F1 race. Hate them for ruining Leclerc.”

Another fan said: “Ferrari doesn’t deserve Leclerc,” while one felt that it was an all-too familiar sight for the Italian outfit: “Classic Ferrari ruining a race strategy.”

Other fans agreed, with one fan writing: “They just ignore the drivers and make the most outrageous radio calls and strategy blunders,” while another wrote: “Both drivers complaining about Ferrari strategy most races and sessions, when is Fred going to make changes?”

Another fan simply wrote: “Ferrari doing Ferrari things as usual.”

Mixed theories on Charles Leclerc’s problems in Hungarian Grand Prix

Leclerc backtracked on some of the comments he made over team radio, explaining that it turned out to be an issue with the chassis of his Ferrari when speaking on Sky Sports F1.

The Monegasque felt it was an “outlier” and that it should not happen again, although George Russell suspects it was another reason.

Russell suggested that Ferrari was playing around with the tyre pressures on Leclerc’s car, which is what led to the dramatic change in balance, while also using a lower engine mode that helped with plank wear at the end of the start/finish straight.

The Mercedes driver was unhappy with Leclerc when racing him for third, noting how he was moving under braking over team radio. Leclerc would later be handed a five-second time penalty for erratic driving.
